Mangaluru: Elderly citizens shifted to ESI Hospital on DC’s directions

Updated

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangaluru, Jun 19: The four elderly people who were evicted and dropped by a private hospital at Kankanady bus stand, were shifted to ESI hospital in Kadri as per the direction of deputy commissioner (DC) Sindhu P Rupesh.

Officials from Mangaluru City Corporation, Revenue department and Social Welfare department visited Kankanady bus stand where the four people were living since last night.

The officials informed that after their treatment, necessary arrangements will be made for their stay.

It may be recalled, the four people were treated at private hospital for three months before evicting and dropping them at Kankanady bus stand.

Earlier, MLA U T Khader clarifying on the incident to Daijiworld media said, "Four citizens who were dropped by the private hospital at Kankanady bus stand were treated for three months without being charged any money.

“The senior citizens had themselves asked the hospital authorities to drop them to the bus stand. The hospital had also informed district health department about this,” said Khader.

Mangaluru: Hospital drives away four destitute elderly citizens

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jun 19: A private hospital here got four senior citizens evicted on Thursday June 18 night. The hospital staff dropped the four people near a market in the city.

The four were in a private hospital located in the city outskirts. Prior to that, they and some others were in the district Wenlock Hospital. At the time Wenlock Hospital was converted into an exclusive COVID-19 hospital, they were shifted to the said private hospital about three months back. They have now been left high and dry, and dropped near Kankanady market.

The four people have been identified as Raghuram from Uppinangady, Srinvas from Benjanpadavu, Ramesh from Talapady and Sundar from Puttur. They were suffering from heart-related ailments, leg pain among others issues. All the four of them are aged above 60.

It is gathered that even police personnel on rounds warned them from sleeping in the bus stand in the night. Auto-rickshaw drivers and traders in the surrounding arranged breakfast for them.

When some locals called the hospital to express concern about the patients sent away by them, the hospital staff said that they had taken care of them for three months. They justified their action, saying that other patients in the hospital were facing problems because of them.

The elderly people who were seated on a platform near the temporary market at Kankanady, were provided food and water by the traders at the market. They also advised them to rest there for the night. Tufail Ahmed, who runs a chicken centre there, bought bed sheets from a textile shop for them. The traders have requested the district administration and people's representatives to come to the rescue of the listless senior citizens.

Dear Charles....all are appreciating the good work done by the hospital for sure. These people were left at the private hospital by district administration and by wenlock. Understand they have problems to look after the patients, but instead of leaving at Kankanady market, this hospital should have brought to the notice of wenlock who left them there or to the district administration or should have asked the addresses of their houses and left at their residences. Not to leave on the street like stray puppies and kitten and that too in this rainy season. Moreover they are suffering from the heart disease and all. Tell me after looking after three months what did they gain at the end by doing this? All went in waste. See that gentleman who provided bed sheets/food....and our auto drivers gave breakfast.... People also help. We too have humanity... By the way, how's your beach side journey to and fro? Did you pass by pilarkhana forest these days??

Suhailbhai, this is " Kaliyug " Today's generation is selish, self centered.... They do not want to take up responsibilities of taking care of their sick, aged parents !!! Take a hard look at the spiraling new homes for senior citizens sprouting all over Dakshin Kannada district !!! Children grab all the assets of their parents and then dump them in these institutions to die a terrible, lonely death !!!

Private hospital has taken care of them for three months. Now it is for donors to be generous and help them. Why mean mentality is exposed by referring to religion and caste. We are all human beings. We are all Indians. It is highly objectionable to say "dollars to nationalists."We love our country and proud to be Indians. In many cases Hindus help Muslims and vice versa.

Why is everybody interested in finding the name of the hospital. The real people who should be held accountable are the children and immediate relatives of these people. I think you should find that. You’ll soon forgot what the medical community has done till now when there was uncertainty about Covid. Extremely short memory. It’s back to blaming the doctors ,hospitals and allied services

I humbly request our Bajrang Dal / Ram Sane  brothers to take care of them. They are the first one to help the downtrodden.
They even work from midnight till early morning, check all trucks going through Mangalore and if they find any cow or bedfellow they make sure that they call police and handover the cows / buffaloes to the police  and give justice to the cows / buffaloes.  We salute to you.

Can someone speak to our brothers in Manglore and ask them to help. This is the time for them to help senior citizens from their own place & prove True nationalism.

Very inhuman and cruel act by the Private Hospital. If the hospital was unable to take care of the patients, they should have at least got in touch with District Administration, or Wenlock Hospital or any old age home expressing their inability to take further care as they are not earning any income. The act of dropping them near a bus stand is totally merciless and action should be taken against the hospital.

Instead of taking them back to wenlock or DC office they really displayed a cruel act against old people... Why only blame hospital ? If they are married where are their children? Why to leave parents this way? Hospitals if they behave this way, how good care they will take of the poor patients if they approach in emergency and with less money??? What is a hospital? What is a doctor? What is a nurse? We consider doctors/nurses next to god. God blesses and doctors make miracle.....wenlock come to their rescue... They are human beings.... People leave puppies and kitten at the market place......

The name is Wenlock ! What will you do now ??

Tell me - did Wenlock make arrangements for the payment of housing these seniors before admitting them at that private hospital ?? Are private hospitals a property of these health authorities ?? To pass a grant, a private hospital must pass through hell. Now why the service is taken for granted ??

Secondly, don't those seniors have any property ?? Let them sell it, give the gains to a NGO, it will look after them till they are alive. The children don't deserve property if the old parents are thrown out.

I think these destitute elderly citizens may not be having any property or bank balance. In India, 90% of senior citizens have no money in their bank accounts. If an elderly person has property or large bank balance, children always stick to them like honey bees stick to honeycomb.
