Hours after announcement, Ramdev told to stop Corona 'medicine' ads

New Delhi, Jun 23 (IANS): Hours after yoga guru Ramdev came out with a "medicine" for Covid-19, the Centre has asked his Patanjali Ayurved Ltd to stop advertising or publicising its claims till the issue is "duly examined".

Taking cognizance of media reports, the Ayush Ministry said that "facts of the claim and details of the stated scientific study are not known to the Ministry".

It also said that the government has informed the company that such advertisements of drugs including ayurvedic medicines are regulated under the provisions of Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954 and Rules thereunder and the directives issued by the Central Government in the wake of Covid outbreak.

On Tuesday, Ramdev launched Patanjali's Coronil tablet, which he claims is a cure for Covid-19. Patanjali claims those administered the medicine were fully cured and none died. Ramdev even said that 69 per cent of them recovered within 3 days.

The Ayush Ministry also reminded Patanjali of a gazette notification, issued on April 21, asserting what are the requirements and manner of research studies on Covid-19.

A Ministry statement said: "In order to make this Ministry aware of the facts of the aforesaid news and verify the claims, Patanjali Ayurved Ltd has been asked to provide at the earliest details of the name and composition of the medicines being claimed for Covid treatment; site(s)/hospital(s), where the research study was conducted for Covid-19; protocol, sample size, Institutional Ethics Committee clearance, CTRI registration and results data of the study (ies) and stop advertising/publicizing such claims till the issue is duly examined."

Earlier, Balkrishna, Ramdev's close aide and MD of Patanjali Ayurved said: "We appointed a team of scientists after COVID-19 outbreak" and that Patanjali conducted a clinical case study on hundreds of positive patients.

Meanwhile, the Ministry has also asked the Uttarakhand government's licensing authority to provide copies of license and product approval details of the ayurvedic medicines which the yoga guru claimed, treats Covid-19, a global pandemic that has the world worried.

    Ramdev's medicine has a combination of immunity boosting herbs such as giloy(amruta balli), tulsi etc. May be it is good for that purpose of immunity boosting.But our people still go turn to allopathic medicines in case of malaria or even a small fever and so only diehard fans of patanjali or absolute bakra's would try this medicine for curing themselves of covid19.

    Surprisingly as Babaji claims the National Institute of Medical Sciences Jaipur did the tests on patients from Delhi and Ahmedabad. But why they did not test in Rajasthan which had the highest number of patients during the initial phase of COVID-19 and the institute is in Jaipur Rajasthan. Why run to Delhi or Gujarat for the test. Are these tests fake or Patanjali can get easy exit from these states if the results are asked.

    The AYUSH minister Mr. Naik should come forward and approve this medicine as he was vehemently telling the world Prince Charles was cured by Ayurveda and people believe him. This is an Ayurvedic concoction so it does not require approvals and also Patanjali is an Ayurvedic medicine producer and does not require anything as their word is final. He should now send it to Trump as was done in the case of HCQ. Else Trump may ban India

    I didn’t think the baba would be dumb enough to try a stunt that was doomed to fail from the very beginning.
    Let us examine his claims:
    Firstly, how did he get access to nearly 300 Covid positive patients when they’re all supposed to be quarantined either at home or in the hospital?
    Secondly, where are the necessary permissions/approvals allowing him to carrying out testing on patients?
    Thirdly , where are his progress reports during testing? Results of Stage 1 trials, stage 2 trials and so on....
    Fourthly, to claim that a drug is curative as well as preventive is far-fetched; at best it will work as a palliative and not an actual cure.
    This news, as far as I know, appeared first on Republic TV- that itself should be enough to demolish any credibility the “drug” might have....!!

    Ramadev is shame to the nation. The educated & science loving people are shamed because of this man's evil desire to make quick bucks...According to FDA act ,every clinical trail should be registered under clinicaltrial.gov website and get approved by FDA. Pathanjali has not followed any scientific method involved in this process.This Dongi baba's medicine is 100% fake.You may be surprised these medicines are already available in Udupi Ayurveda shops two days before it is released to the market !!!

    If people believe that this patanjali or homeopathy would cure them, then they are bringing it upon themselves. There is a reason why big pharmas spend millions on research or testing. But in India, anything sold in the name of religion or ayurveda will be lapped up. Sad state of our country. Ramdev has been given a free hand and hero status only because of this govt. He is nothing but a charlatan. Uses the same template as his masters, spreading lies and falsehood.

    Ramdev’s is yogic bluff. He is hiding behind power of saffron robes.

    His mentor Swami Yogananada – the man whose licence had enabled Divya Pharmacy to function – was found murdered. With Yogananda’s death, a key associate who had provided critical help to Ramdev in his early days was gone. The murder remains unsolved till date.

    Rajeev Dixit, head of a Gandhian organisation called ‘Azadi Bachao Andolan’. Dixit’s death falls into one of the giant black holes that is an unsolved case. Initially suspected to have died of a cardiac arrest, Ramdev seems to muddy the waters when he declares he had spoken to his mentor for an hour the night before he died, exhorting the latter to take care of his health. But Pradeep Dixit (Rajeev’s brother) cannot help but wonder now: how had his brother, who Ramdev’s men had told him was in no condition to speak on the phone, managed to have an hour-long telephonic conversation with Ramdev about the ideal line of treatment?

    Lastly, his aide Vaidik goes to Pakistan to meet India's most dreaded 9/11 terror Hafiz Saeed to have private meeting.

    Ramdev took yoga and Ayurveda out of the restrictive realm of religion and made it an accessible practice of preventive health care for millions of Indians. When most of Indian's read the book on his biography "Godman to Tycoon: The Untold Story of Baba Ramdev" this man's last piece of saffron robe is not enough to send him to gallows.

    After 2014 we can not trust the govt nor a critic. There is no guarantee whatever govt said today could be same or different tomorrow even through court ruling. We ordinary people are at govt's mercy to agree with govt whether we like it or not.
