UN recognition for Kerala in fight against Covid-19

Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 24 (IANS): Kerala on Tuesday was among those honoured for tackling the Covid-19 pandemic when the United Nations celebrated the Public Service Day.

The function, held on a virtual platform, saw the participation of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and other top UN dignitaries who applauded all the leaders which included state Health Minister K.K. Shailaja for effectively tackling Covid-19.

Speaking on the occasion, Shailaja noted that the experiences of tackling Nipah virus and the two floods - 2018 and 2019 - where the health sector played a crucial role, all helped in tackling Covid-19 timely.

"Right from the time when Covid cases got reported in Wuhan, Kerala got into the track of the WHO and followed every standard operating protocols and international norms and hence, we have been able to keep the contact spread rate to below 12.5 per cent and the mortality rate to 0.6 per cent," she said.

The world has recognized the success of 'Kerala Model' against pandemic. The early thinking of the state has made many changes in the rules, hired the health staff, provided door to door delivery of essentials regardless of category and increased the internet speed with the service provide use IT for proper tracking of the patients and so on.

This is the same state Prime Minister Modi during last assembly election has compared to 'Somalia' now has surpassed the 'Gujarat Model'. But Modi is only applauding only the BJP ruled states.

The success of Congress ruled Chhattisgarh and Odhisha by BJD is exceptionally done well without affecting the citizens.

Certainly and beyond Doubt, these most educated people of India had never wasted their "Energy & Resources " for "JUUMLA " slogans like "Ghanta Bajavo, Diya Jalavo & Phool Barsavo " Nautankis, instead they did their best in Search, Analyse & Cure formula to bring down their ranking from FIRST in the bigining to EIGHTEENTH at present,

where our Chaiwala Chacha appreciating Yeddyappa who at fourteenth and at present on tenth spot!!!!! Not only that, even Chaiwala Chacha once scolded Kerala CM, for not attending his Bol Bachhan meet through video conferencing which didn't have any of level of quality but still CM's has to waste their time!!!

    Dear Mr. Amit

Dont compare Kerala to Kanrnatak, with 3.5 Crore population out of that around 75 Lakh people staying in Middle East. But Karnataka state with a population of 7 Crore is doing a better job in tackling Covid-19 pandemic. We have 1.2 Crore population in Bangalore itself. In kerala they dont have any industry, Kerala minus Gulf = Worst than Bihar in employment rate. Compare the Cases v/s death rate b/w Kerala and Assam, were Assam in better place. But one this is sure Karnataka is doing better job. Cases increased only after people from neighboring state entered our state.

    Dear Ullas,

Don't get fooled by numbers. While some states are not testing enough people to keep the number down, some are even under reporting the cases. Kerala has been doing very sincere job with containing the virus. Religion and politics does not come into picture during this epidemic.

As you rightly pointed out, Kerala has very high number of NRIs. Even though they are a small state, they have got 10 times more flights from gulf in last one month compared to Karnataka and still they are able to contain the virus. On the other hand our MP and state president of a national party wants to be famous only by giving statements and doing nothing.

Mr. Ullas, Mangalore, Percentage of mortality and population is a mere EXCUSE of Administrative failures. eg: USA is a Superpower in every aspect, whether it's in Defence, Health or Advance Technology but their population is 1/4th of India, then what stopped them to have a control on Corona ??? That is Negligence!!! At the same time look at New Zealand. First Country to declare Corona FREE !!!
My dear friend, WILL power matters!!! Not JUUMLA power or NAUNTANKI power!!! Nothing will change in slogans like : Ghanta Bajavo, Diya Jalavo & Phool Barsavo, result of the above is "ULLU BANAVO" nothing else.

Kerala people are are shrewd at hogging limelight by any means and earning "recognition"...however this they can do with outsiders but not with fellow keralites...like a fox can outsmart other animals but not another fox...

"In 2018 during the Nipah outbreak, Shailaja camped at Kozhikode as a guest artist and like she is trying to get the title of 'COVID Rani' now, she tried to earn the title 'Nipah Princess' then." - Mullappally Ramachandran

When other states were busy in blame game, religion politics, Kerala was effortlessly working towards containing the spread of virus. That's because people are well educated and are not divided by the religion, cast or race.
