Congress seeks virtual Parliament session to discuss China issue

New Delhi, Jun 25 (IANS): The Congress has demanded a virtual session of Parliament to discuss the Indo-China face-off and other issues pertaining to national importance, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the fuel price hike.

Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera said, "There should be virtual session to discuss important issues. During the 1962 war, BJP leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee demanded a session and the then Prime Minister accepted that demand."

He said even the parliamentary committees should meet to discuss and raised questions as to why they were stalled.

The Congress said that Vajpayee even led a protest on the issue in 1962. "It is unfortunate that the presiding officers of both the Houses should have walked the extra mile in order to prevail upon the government, not should try and subvert Parliament in this manner and escape parliamentary oversight," said Manish Tewari while demanding for the session.

Former Union Minister Manish Tewari said, "It is extremely unfortunate and we say it with great regret that while you can have Russia, India, China trilateral summits virtually, while the G-20 can be held virtually and all party meeting on China can be held virtually, this Government has walked the extra mile in order to hide behind rules, in order to escape parliamentary oversight.

Tewari said, "This is nothing short of emasculation of Parliament".

He said, "It can be understood that you cannot possibly convene a full session of Parliament, though the Parliaments are meeting virtually around the world. Great Britain is an example, in Portugal the Parliament has met virtually, but, why can't the Standing Committee of Defence meet, why can't the Consultative Committee on Defence meet, why can't the standing committee on Health meet."

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said, "We can have a special session of Parliament to discuss important issues, keeping in mind both social distancing and the importance of National Security."

Congress alleged that it is a sign of authoritarianism and it is only an effort by the BJP government to buy time so that it can escape the questions which have been asked by the people of India through the major opposition parties.

Yes, CONgress should explain the string of donations by "Peoples Republic of China" to Rajiv Gandhi Foundation since 2006 and transfer of land in Siachen glacier in 2008. The Nation needs to know, and in these COVID times, virtual Parliament is best bet!

Oh Yes, Of Course, congress is waiting since 2014 to have open discussion with BJP, open press conference, JPC including Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, Siachen etc but BJP is unwilling to attend this session. Not only only from 2006 we will will have discussion and Q&A since 1962 on all issues. Just so that you know that Vajapayee already asked for clarity about 1962 war with China and subsequent consequences and Nehru at that time agreed to his request and clarified him and after that no issues were raised by BJP on 1962 war matter. Congress is ready but do you dare????????....

The BJP leadership which never participated in India's freedom struggle behind father of the nation Mahatama Gandhi is the only party claims to be nationalist and chants slogan 'Bhart Mata ki jai'. But when it comes to national integrity it run away from the responsibility by giving contradictory statements.

PM Modi and his central leadership has lost moral aspects amid political noises about China Occupied Kashmir that involves 43,180 sq km (Aksai Chin and Shaksgam). In addition are illegal Chinese claim to 90,000 sq km of Arunachal Pradesh, additional 1,702 sq km in Western Sector and 2,486 sq km in Central Sector.

    2. Why does India Foundation keep visiting these countries? Who do they meet? What's the outcome?
    3. What's the role of NSA Ajit Doval's son- Shaurya Doval? He keeps attending these meetings through India Foundation?

More BJP runs away from reality to hide its misadventures better it is for congress and rest of country to understand BJP's blunder and people to decide congress deserves to win elections. BJP was feeling lot of heat in these past few months for its mishandling of covid-19 issue, China, Pakistan, migrant workers, economy etc. While congress was bravely facing all external threats BJP is Surrendering to all our neighbouring enemies. If Modi has nothing to hide and tackled all issues then he should not feel guilty to face the parliament and discuss the issues with opposition. How can opposition be with govt if the opposition is kept in dark???????.....

People of country have rejected this fake narrative, not once but twice and will continue to shun sycophants dynasty politics. CONgress does not learn that abusing Country, abusing Indian Army people of India will never forgive. Perpetrators of EMERGENCY have been shown the door every time
