'Don't politicise national security issues': Pawar chides Rahul

Satara (Maharashtra), Jun 28 (IANS): Taking a swipe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Nationalist Congress Party President Sharad Pawar on Saturday urged him not to politicise matters of national security, and remember that after the 1962 India-China war, 45,000 square km of Indian territory were occupied by the Chinese.

"Let's not forget what happened in 1962 when China occupied 45,000 square km of India's territory. While levelling such allegations, one must also consider what happened in the past," said the former Defence Minister.

Pawar was responding to questions about Gandhi's accusations that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had surrendered Indian territory to China in the recent border skirmishes in Galwan Valley of Ladakh.

He reiterated that such matters of national security should not be politicised, referring to the disputed Aksai Chin area under China's control but claimed by India.

Giving a breather to the Centre, Pawar said it cannot be blamed for the developments in Galwan Valley since Indian soldiers tried to push back the Chinese soldiers when they tried to encroach on our territory.

"If our army had not been alert, we would not have known about the Chinese actions... The scuffle means we were vigilant or we would have been caught unawares. To term it as a failure of the Defence Minister or anyone else is not correct, and it is unfair to make such allegations," said Pawar.

The NCP chief also referred to the India-China agreement in which both nations decided not to carry firearms at the LAC.

On June 15, 20 soldiers of the Bihar Regiment, including its commander, were killed after clashes with Chinese soldiers at the Galwan Valley, sparking off a major political fracas.

The NCP is a component of the 3-party alliance comprising the Shiv Sena and the Congress in the Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra.

Pawar want to be in power all time and that is why he won’t annoy Modi. Had congress been very powerful this Pawar will not open his mouth. He was raided by ED few months before but now nothing against him. To safe guard his nephew Ajit he played a good game by allowing him to support BJP. That game was all with Pawar’s blessings but BJP fell in that trap and cleared Ajit from all corruption charges. Once cleared of charges Ajit went back to his party. That is Pawar.

Does Congress need advice from Pawar who is always a fence sitter? How much of land did Pawar sacrifice when he was in the Government? Should the opposition not caution the GOI about the national security issues? Is he planning to align with the BJP? Was there a need to visit China 10 times when all the former PMs were cautious with the dragon?

Pawar is a senior partner in MahaAgadhi in Maharashtra. He's had feud with Sonia earlier on Foreigner origin issue, but in a very mature advice to Son Raul gives the much needed insight into handling National Issues. A lesson to all commentators here on this forum

Pawar should realise it is the deafening silence by Modi on all issues of national importance that makes everyone demand that the country should be kept informed. While in the case of Bagalkot issue, there were regular briefings by the defence ministry and the Govt including Modi himself presumably to derive maximum political milage, Modi's silence on the galwan issue and then making a contraversial statement in the all party meet contrdicting the Defence Minister, Foreign Minister and the Army Chief gives rise to unwanted speculation.

The onus is on the Govt and Modi particularly to ensure transperancy in such matters and not use such agencies like in Bagalkot to blow his trumpets from roof tops and be totally silent on the Galwan Issue.

Any time fall of mahrashtra government is imminent. Before also Sharad Pawar shaken congress by announcing new party. He will hit Udhaav govt. at right time for not giving any chance for either Shiv Sena or Congress in Mahrashtra in near future. BJP with NCP plus MNS will form govt. in mahrashtra shortly. MNS will take the lead. One day Sharad Pawar will become President of India. Pawar is long time friend of Modiji.

Pawar is right. Congress poking too much in unnecessary affairs which makes zero impact on national level instead focussing on designing aggressive political strategies over basic issues.
