Money from fuel price goes to poor, not middlemen, retorts Pradhan

New Delhi, Jun 29 (IANS): After Congress interim chief Sonia Gandhi demanded a rollback of fuel price hike and Rahul Gandhi alleged that the Centre is "profiteering", Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan hit back at the Congress, saying the collected money was used for welfare measures instead of personal benefit as allegedly prevalent during the Congress era.

Pradhan said, "I once again reiterate to Madam Sonia Gandhi ji that Modi ji has transferred more than Rs 65,000 crore to 42 crore people in the last 3 months."

Making a strong allegation against the Congress, the Petroleum Minister remarked, "Unlike Congress' legacy of transferring money into the accounts of middlemen, ‘National Daamad', ‘The Family' and Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, Modi ji's DBT is about putting money in the hands of the poor, farmers, migrant workforce and women."

He also reiterated what BJP President JP Nadda has been saying in many of his virtual rallies, asking what explains Congress-ruled states also hiking tax on fuel if Congress is against the idea.

The minister's counter comes after Sonia and Rahul upped the ante over the issue of fuel price hike.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has asked the government to stop "profiteering" from the petrol and diesel prices. His mother and Congress President Sonia Gandhi said, "I along with Congress workers and citizens demand that government should take back the hike in prices of diesel and petrol in these tough times."

Since the daily price revision resumed on June 7, petrol price has increased by Rs 9.12 and diesel rose by Rs 11.01 in the national capital. In the other cities the magnitude of increase was similar.

During UPA II this is the same BJP for the Rs 1 exercise duty has come on roads to protest the price hike when the crude oil is reached its peak. When Congress collected the taxes Modi, Shanwaz Hussain, Mukthar Abbas Naquvi, Smriti Irani, Rananath Singh and even Baba Ramdev protested.

Today exercise duty for petrol raised from Rs 9(2014) to Rs 32(2020) and diesel from Rs 3(2014) has gone up to Rs(33). Fuel price for PM Modi's BJP became 'Cash cow' after 'Beef exports'.

The BJP is running away from the questions on 'PM Care Fund', now wanted the citizens of this nation to believe that taxes collected from fuel is donated to poor of this nation.

    1. Then why did budget deficit of PM Modi's government has to borough three time funds from RBI?
    2. Where did the BJP has spent 20 lakh crores since 2014?
    3. Why the BJP has not the benefit of low oil prices like all other neighboring countries?
    4. Why fuel sold to neighboring countries is lower than the retail prices paid by the Indians?
    5. On what basis government is increasing the fuel prices when the International crude oil price remains stable?
    6. Why the government is not giving the details of expenditure collected from the fuel taxes?
    7. Is increase in fuel prices won't affect the transport and retail sector that in turn affecting cost of living of the common man?

Sir, Stop defending Modi. Stand with poor of this nation. The retail prices of fuel is putting burden on common man's daily expenses.
When the UPA II left the office , the taxes were at ₹9.48 and ₹3.56 per litre for petrol and diesel respectively. During the UPA regime, from 2011 to 2014, the crude oil prices ranged from $74.33 to $102.15 per barrel. Accordingly, the retail prices ranged between ₹61.5 and ₹78.7 at that point in time.

Petrol or Diesel was never at Rs. 87.43. Please think about the poor of this nation regardless of their faith.

    Good joke.

Modi Govt collects money from everyone including the poor, with absorbent hiked prices on fuel. Then it, gives it back to them through some charity scheme's. There are hundreds of middle men all through this chain, starting from retail petrol pump, distributors, etc. etc. Yet, minister claiming it is a act of charity in a insult to injury on the poor and middle class.

Bhakths not only love such insults, in addition they want others too join them, together then they blame it on congress.

See the arrogance of Andhbhakts. They are not deterred by the price increase of fuel and challenge others not to buy the fuel.

Then why Smriti Irani and others in BJP were dancing on the road when fuel price was increased by a small denomination during UPA time? Then Modi was shouting in all the public meetings against this. All these videos are making rounds. Just see it and then relate it to fuel price today.

All these arrogance need to be diluted and this can be done only by people fighting this inhuman act of Government unitedly.

Krishna anna, waw namunedha jan anna. No one told to buy petrol. But with out Petrol /diesel how food supplement/ Medication/ Vegetable/all other product would de transported?
You should have a basic commonsense that the increase in the oil price will increase the transport cost and it will result in increase int he commodity price.
