Stop profiteering, roll back fuel prices, Rahul tells govt

New Delhi, Jun 29 (IANS): Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has asked the government to stop profiteering from the motor fuel and roll back the recent hikes. The prices of petrol and diesel have increased 22 times during the lockdown.

In a video, released here on Monday, Rahul Gandhi said, "The affect of rise in diesel and petrol prices are two-fold. One that you pay directly, and the other due to risenin prices of consumer products, including essential items."

On one hand the government had written off loans of big people, on the other it was trying to profit from fuel prices, putting extra burden on the poor and the farmer, he said.

The country was reeling under an economic tsunami due to the coronavirus pandemic and everyone, including the rich and the poor, had been affected, he said and added, he had urged the government to implement NYAY (Nyuntam Aay Yojana) to help the poor, but it didn't listen.

Since the resumption of daily rate revision on June 7, petrol prices have increased by Rs 9.12 and diesel by Rs 11.01 in the national capital. The petrol prices in Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata were Rs 87.14, Rs 83.59 and Rs 82.05 per litre, respectively.

In other cities too, the price rise has been similar.

BJP govt has been busy collecting money from all possible ways even now during pandemic where people are jobless, all businesses and activities are shut down and in lock down. Poor people have no food and shelter but this govt is snatching money from them. Govt has not spent a single paisa, on the contrary BJP has charged ticket fare for migrant workers, charged ticket for evacuation of Indians from gulf who are jobless. Not provided food, shelter and cash for poor people who are jobless. Small and medium scale businesses are blaming centre for neglecting them and thinking of closing. But this govt has made loud announcements of huge economic package but none have benefitted nor it has reached anyone. But govt has enough money to buy MLAs to topple a running opposition govt.

BJP govt only talk & promises. Not even Paisa services to the jobless,, poor & migrant workers. Collecting 17% GST tax on all essentials including medicines & flipping the state govts to BJP. Great job for our future.

Once again Rahul Gandhi and Congress protest is short of explanation. The party should bring awarness about the retail prices sold during UPA II and the current price under the BJP ruling. The crude oil price and the retail price sold at the time. The exercise duty at the time UPA II and the current taxation.

The party should also question the 20 lakh crores taxation which BJP's union minister saying spent on poor to be highlighted in white paper.

    1. Why the Congress party is not demanding the fuel prices to brought under GST?
    2. Why the party is not releasing the statement of BJP leaders who were protesting against the UPA II prices and ask the question now on the steep hike?
    3. Why the Congress is not grilling the fake Godman Baba Ramdev who sought votes for BJP in AAJ Tak show?
