Mangalore: Flower and Fruits Exhibition at Kadri Park from Feb 19

Mangalore, Feb 19: The annual Horticulrual Fruits and Flower Exhibition, is being held at Kadri Park in the city in association with the department of horticulture, Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat, district administration, City Corporation and Siri Horticultural Association, for the year 2009-10, from Friday February 19 at Kadri Park in the city. The exhibition will be on till the 23rd of this month.

President of Siri Horticultural Association and zilla panchayat chief executive officer, P Shivashankar, giving details of the exhibition, informed at a press conference held here on Thursday that efforts are being made to organize the exhibition on a grander scale and to make this year’s exhibition unique.














“A replica of Mahavir Circle, Pumpwell in the city, made exclusively from roses and cut flowers, will be an added attraction at the event. With the help of stems of banana trees, flowers and coconut fronds, a ‘Deva Mantapa’ is being erected. Various vegetables that are nutritious have been grown at the venue. Demonstration about making of earthworm manure and bio-digester production units, has been arranged. Special food section will be in place. Various commercial stalls and stalls of nurseries function at the exhibition,” he added.

Attractive carvings made out of fruits and vegetables are being exhibited. From February 19 onwards, different competitions are being arranged. Interested people may take part in these competitions, he explained.

“Entry to the exhibition will cost ten rupees for adults, five rupees for the children and three rupees for the students. The area covered by exhibition this time is more as compared to last year. Children will have lot of things to play and enjoy,” he said.

The exhibition will be inaugurated by Krishna J Palemar, district in-charge minister. MLAs, peoples’ representatives etc., will take part in the inaugural. Various cultural programmes will be presented in the evening, Shivashankar added.

Vice president of Siri Horitultural Asociation, Lakshmi Rao Aroor, and deputy director of horticulture department, H N Hema, were present at the press conference.
