Mangalore, Feb 19: The flower and fruit exhibition organized by the horticulture department, Zilla Panchayat, district administration, and Siri Horticulture Association, at Kadri Park, was inaugurated on Friday February 19. 

It attracted a large number of flower and vegetable lovers with various interesting displays.

The exhibition has various flowers and plants exhibited in an attractive, beautiful way. The vegetables grown in the park for this annual exhibition also appealed to visitors.

Along with the exhibition of flowers and fruits, the welcome ‘Rangoli’ by Kallacchu Publications, and the welcome structures designed using flowers are the highlights of the exhibition.






















Watermelon carvings by artist Harish Kumar from Shimoga left the visitors marveling at his expertise. Former President of India A P J Abdul Kalam, Jnanapeeta Award winners of the state, Lord Manjunatha of Kadri Temple, and Lord Ganesh, have all been created using several vegetables.

The vegetables grown for the purpose of exhibition also include various varieties and improvised breeds of commonly used vegetables. 

Along with flowers and vegetables, a display about water conservation and usage of water resources through well-known artist Jagadeesh Ammunje’s illustrative model presentation, sponsored by Jalanayana( watershed) department, display of different varieties of cashews by the cashew research centre in Ullal, a picture display of various breeds of cows, and various medicinal plants have been exhibited by the forest department.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Zilla Panchayat president Santhosh Kumar Bhandary in the presence of MLA U T Khader, P Shivashankar, chief executive officer, Zilla Panchayat, vice-president of Siri Horticulture Association Laxmi Rao Aroor, deputy director of horticulture department H N Hema, and officers from various departments were also present. 

The exhibition will be open till Monday February 23.

    Excellent pictures! The vegetable and fruit look as fresh and tempting. Especially the cashew fruit, which I have not tasted for a long time. Brings me back memories.   Excellent pictures DAIJI.
