Mangalore, Feb 20:
A fire at a dress shop in Tokyo Market in the city on Saturday February 20 caused heavy loss as dress materials were burnt.

Sagar Dresses, situated on GHS Road, has been partially burnt in the incident. The firemen acted immediately and doused the fire before it could spread to other shops.

The shop is located on the second floor of the Tokyo Market building and smoke was seen coming out around 9 pm barely 15 minutes after the establishment closed for business. The loss is estimated at more than Rs 2 lac.

The reason for the incident is reportedly an electric short circuit. The fire department was appreciated for its prompt action which helped prevent a larger tragedy.

In similar previous incidents in some other buildings, the neighbouring shops had been damaged by the fire spreading to other shops. Last year, at the World Trade Centre near Bunts Hostel, the fire could not be doused for more than six hours.
