Mangaluru, Jul 5: A former union minister from the district has tested positive for coronavirus.

It is said that the former minister, who is a resident of Bantwal taluk in the district, has contracted the infection from a maid who works in his house.

Sources said that even his wife has tested positive. Both the former minister and his wife are getting treated in a private hospital in the city.

Though the former minister has tested positive for COVID-19, he has not exhibited any symptoms of the disease, it is said.

The former minister's son in a statement said that his father was tested on Saturday, and the result confirmed that he had contracted the virus. "As a precautionary measure, he has been admitted to a private hospital. He is doing well and has no symptoms related to coronavirus. I request people not to panic. Let us pray that he recovers soon."

A few days ago an MLA of the city had tested positive for coronavirus.
