Mangaluru, Jul 5: Chief minister B S Yediyurappa on Sunday July 5 announced ex-gratia of Rs 5 lac each to the families of the two youngsters who killed in a landslip at Banglagudde at Gurpur here.
A girl and a boy, identified as Safwan (16) and Sahala (10), died in the tragedy. Several houses and an auto rickshaw were also damaged in the incident. Families were soon evacuated from the spot and shifted to safer areas.
Taking to Twitter, CM Yediyurappa expressed condolences and said, "The landslip at Gurpur in Mangaluru in which two children lost their lives has caused immense pain. Such an incident should not have happened. I pray that they rest in peace and God gives the bereaved families the strength to bear with the loss. An ex-gratia of Rs 5 lac each will be given to the kin of the children."
In a separate statement, the CM said that BJP state president Nalin Kumar Kateel, minister Kota Srinivas Poojary and district officials were involved in the rescue mission at the site of the tragedy.
"It is unfortunate that despite the best efforts by the district officials, the two children could not be saved," he said.
He added that families in the vicinity were shifted to safer places. "As many as 118 people from 19 houses in have been evacuated and shifted. Work is on to shift people from another 60 houses. The district administration has been instructed to build houses at a site in Bondanthila for the displaced families."
