Panaji, Jul 13: MP of South Goa Pankaj Kumar Singh, responding to the complaints of not following the social distancing norms visited the South Goa Planning and Development Authority's (SDPDA) wholesale fish market on Sunday July 12. He was accompanied by Fatorda PI Kapil Nayak and deputy collector John Fernandes. The complaints were received four months after it reopened on Friday July 10.

According to sources, the Fatorda police were instructed to ensure that social distancing was followed while the market resumed and not permit roadside vendors to carry out illegal trade.

A fisherman Manjunath Harinshikari was arrested for violating the norms but later released on bail.

Since the fish market resumed on Friday, sources say that it has seen overcrowding even though the SGPDA has issued guidelines and norms to be followed while carrying out the trade. Instructions are given to not involve middlemen in the trade and spaces were earmarked for the traders.
