Bangalore: Yakshagana Academy Announces Awards 2008, 2009

Bangalore, Feb 28: The Karnataka Yakshagana Bayalata Academy has selected 10 artistes each representing various forms of yakshagana and bayalata for its annual award for 2008 and 2009, which would be presented at Dharmastala here on March 21.

Announcing the awards, chairperson of the academy Kumble Sunder Rao told presspersons here on Friday February 26 that each award comprises cash prize of Rs 10,000, a shawl, citation and memento.

Karki Narayana Hasyagara, Vandse Narayana Ganiga, Molahalli Heriyanaik, Hosahitlu Malinga Bhat, H. Subbanna Bhatta (Brahmavar), Ramaiah Rai (Mumbai), Fakira (Beltangady), Madevaiah (Kottadoddigrama), K N Dasachar (Muniyur) and Siddanna Chenappa Sarasamba (Gulbarga) are the award winners for 2008, while Peruvodi Narayanabhat, Sampaje Shinappa Rai, Katilu Purushottama Bhat, Matyadi Narasimha Shetty, Mukhyprana Kinnigoli, M K Ramesh Achar (Kattehaklu), Mahabaleshwar Bhat Dharmasahale, Kashibai Dadanatti (Bagalkot), Khadar Saab (Mriyammanahalli -Bellary district) and Jayaraje Urs (H D Kote) are the winners for 2009.
