Moodbidri: Man arrested for raping minor girl, booked under POCSO Act

Moodbidri, Jul 17: The police have arrested a local, identified as Asif, on the allegation of raping a minor girl. Asif, a fish vendor from Marpady here, has been arrested and booked under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The fish vendor had come closer to a minor daughter of a coolie residing nearby. The family of the girl is originally from Tamil Nadu. It is said that he earned the confidence of the girl, and cajoled her into accompanying him to a nearby hillock where he reportedly raped her.

The incident came to light on Wednesday. On the basis of complaint filed by the parents of the girl, the police arrested the man and registered case under POCSO. He was produced in the court, upon which the court remanded the accused to judicial custody.

This case follows the recent incident of a minor girl having been raped by two persons, Dyamanna (50) and Manjunath (25) at Jangamara Kalgudi near Gangavathi.
