Bengaluru, Jul 17: Coronavirus vigilance squad has warned the people that undertaking long journeys in the mass transport system exposes them to the risk of getting coronavirus infection. It has issued this warning in light of the increasing incidence of the corona. The warning says that people who travel in the company of an infected person for over six hours by getting seated less than three feet away from are sure to get infected. The squad said that the infection has been confirmed in thousands of people who travelled in this fashion to other states or from district to district. It said that even slightest negligence poses this danger. The fact that many KSRTC and BMTC drivers and a few of the conductors have fallen prey to the infection has substantiated this claim.

Handling the linens and utensils of the infected persons, touching nasal secretions, blood, vomit, spit, faeces, urine etc or living with the infected persons also spreads the infection, the squad has warned. Therefore the people have been warned to exercise extreme caution and to stay away from direct contact with the infected persons.

The doctors have been advising people to avoid travel unless extremely necessary. During travel, people have to use masks and sanitisers without fail. If possible, they have to sprinkle some disinfectant solution on their clothes and maintain a social distance of not less than three feet. As soon as they reach home, they have to take a bath and wash clothes in hot water.

As per rule, most risky contacts (primary) should be detected and subjected to tests. Less risky contacts (secondary) should be kept under observation. If they display symptoms, they should be tested. The period of observation for an infected or suspected person would be 28 days (first 14 days house/hospital/institutional quarantine, and the next 14 days personal report quarantine).
