Mangaluru, Jul 20: "Private hospitals have been directed to not send back coronavirus infected people without admission," said district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary. Speaking during his visit at Father Muller Hospital, Mangaluru on Monday, he said, "Government will not tolerate coronavirus patients wandering about for admission. Patients holding APL and BPL cards should be treated under Ayushman Bharat Scheme under the charges specified by the government. The health department will monitor the situation of patients in every hospital. Around 25,000 Rapid Antigen Test kits and 50 ventilators have been approved by the state government will be supplied to the district soon," he said.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel directed to open care centres in other taluks also. "The pressure on private hospitals will be reduced as the state government has permitted home quarantine for people without symptoms," he said.

Father Muller Hospital College director Fr Richard Coelho said that all the coronavirus patients are being provided treatment in the hospital and all the government guidelines are being adhered to.

The deputy commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh, district health officer Dr Rathnakar and hospital administrator Fr Rudolf Ravi D’Sa were present.

Stern action for sending away corona-positive pregnant women:

“Private hospitals should not harass pregnant women just because they are infected with coronavirus,” said Kota. “Delay in their treatment will not be tolerated. Stern action will be taken against the hospitals who go against this order,” he said. Further, he asked the deputy commissioner to order an enquiry into making a pregnant woman wander about looking for admission the whole day in Nelyadi. “Those who are responsible could also be suspended if necessary,” he said.

“Additional beds should be arranged in Lady Goschen Hospital. The doctors in Wenlock hospital will have to coordinate their efforts in this regard. Food should be served on time for all the patients. There should also be a change in the menu every day. A PRO should be appointed in Wenlock hospital. Arrangements for additional ICU rooms will be done and extra ventilators will be provided at Wenlock hospital. More N95 masks will be supplied. A proposal for more doctors, lab technicians, D group staff, purchase of ambulances and other facilities have been already submitted to the government,” the district in-charge said.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel called for lesser confusion and more coordination in handling the cases at Wenlock hospital. MLA Vedavyas Kamath asked the concerned to make sure that patients waiting for admission are not put through hardships.
