Bengaluru, Jul 23: The state high court, on Wednesday July 22, quashed a petition filed against the permission granted by the state government for Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation against Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president, D K Shivakumar. With this, the court has given its green signal to the CBI to go ahead with its investigation into the income tax raid on the Delhi residence of Shivakumar.

The above petition had been filed by Shashikumar Shivanna, a close associate of Shivakumar. The single judge bench presided over by Justice R Nataraj, which had completed hearing into the petition and reserved its orders, pronounced the order on Wednesday. The high court upheld the arguments placed by the state government and the CBI and also ruled that the state government was in order in granting permission for CBI investigation.

Shashikumar had argued that when granting advance permission for CBI inquiry, the state government had not issued detailed order supported by reasons for the same. Advocate general of Karnataka, Prabhulinga Navadagi, and CBI advocate P Prasanna Kumar, had argued that this case had already been investigated by the enforcement directorate in which mention has been made about the role of government officials and corruption. Therefore they had justified the clearance given for CBI investigation.
