Tumakuru, Jul 24: We come across many people who lament that their business was devastated by coronavirus pandemic and that they have no idea what they can do to redeem what they have lost. There are some who also have ended their lives. However, there is a youth who has shown to the world that if we make up our minds, nothing is impossible.

The youth in question was dealing in betel nuts for a living. The lockdown which arrived like a bolt from the blue delivered him a big blow. He thought about various options and then chose to undertake agriculture. Nijananda Murthy from Bandihalli village in Nittur revenue division, Gubbi taluk, kept himself busy by engaging coolies from his village who were sitting idle. He invested two to three lac rupees in his three-acre land and raised tomato crops. He now sells tomatoes at the rate of Rs 700 to 750 per box at the APMC Market, Kolar. He has already recovered his investment and earned Rs 20 lac by selling three to four thousand boxes of tomatoes.

Murthy says that he had heard that farmers in the villages near his home were making a good profit by growing tomatoes. Therefore he thought of growing tomatoes, as he was at home after his betel nut business crashed due to lockdown. He is happy now that he took this decision.

This incident goes on to prove that sitting idle and whiling away time does not help us in any way and if we are prepared to put in hard work that will save us. It also is an example to prove the belief that those who work hard in fields do not face losses.
