Coronavirus claims fourth victim in Kasargod; DC imposes Sec 144

Kasargod, Jul 25: A 75-year-old lady, resident of Padannakad, who was getting treated in the government medical college hospital of Kannur died on Saturday July 25. With her death the number of coronavirus victims in the district has risen to four. The woman was admitted to Kanhangad private hospital as her diabetes-related complications turned serious.

On July 18, a woman from Uppala had died due to coronavirus. Now three deaths have occurred in quick succession. Community spread is suspected in the district.


Police checking vehicles

On Friday, 106 new cases of coronavirus infection are confirmed in the district. Out of this 97 are primary contacts.

Two police personnel of Kumble police station have turned positive for coronavirus. Nearly 30 police personnel of the station are placed under home quarantine now. Public entry is banned in the station now. Any complaints have to be registered online only.

Prohibitory orders are issued under five police station limits from midnight of Saturday in the wake of the increasing coronavirus infections in the district. Section 144 will be imposed as per the orders given by district collector Dr D Sajith Babu.

The section will be in implementation under Manjeshwar, Kumble, Kasargod, Neeleshwar and Hosadurga police station limits. Shops selling essentials will be open once in two days from 11 am to 5 pm. Plying of taxi and auto rickshaws is also banned.

Only emergency vehicles will be allowed to ply. If people found to be in groups they will be arrested and further action will be taken. Vehicle checking is intensified on main streets of Kasargod city. Vehicles that are violating the orders are being seized. Police have installed barricades at the new bus stand on national highway and Karandakkad to control the vehicles.
