Bengaluru, Jul 25: Teams of officials led by senior officers have been visiting different hospitals that have charged the patients more than what has been prescribed by the government for the treatment of coronavirus patients. They have held consultations with the patients and asked hospitals to refund the excess charges.

IPS officer D Roopa, stated that there have been many complaints about levying exorbitant charges by hospitals. "We have been discussing with the families of the infected persons, getting information about the fee charged and matching the bills. We found that in 22 cases, the hospitals have charged more than what they are eligible. We have instructed the hospitals to refund Rs 24 lac to the patients," said Roopa, a member of the team keeping an eye over the bed and other charges.

She said that admission registers of patients were checked, and random calls were made to enquire about the fee charged. She said the hospitals have agreed for the refund within two days. In case of hospitals which have collected more charges, she warned, action under the Disaster Management Act will be initiated.
