Mangaluru: Tributes paid to martyrs of Kargil war on Vijay Diwas

Mangaluru, Jul 26: Tributes were paid to Kargil war heroes at Martyrs' Memorial near Kadri War Memorial here on Sunday July 26.

Kargil Vijay Diwas (Victory Day) is celebrated every year on July 26 in memory of the recapturing by Indian army of some parts of Kargil, which was seized illegally by the Pakistan military.


The programme was organized by the association of ex-servicemen of Dakshina Kannada, and Lions Club of Mangaluru.

Speaking on the occasion, additional deputy commissioner Roopa M J paid tributes to the martyrs and said, "The younger generation of the country needs to know and remember the bravery, sacrifice and martyrdom of Indian soldiers in the Kargil war."

Former MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik, president of former soldiers' association Nitteguthu Sharath Bhandary, Lions Club president Krishnanda Pai and Nandagopal took part in the event and paid tributes.

Only a few people attended the programme due to Sunday lockdown, as well as in order to maintain the COVID-19 protocol.
