Bengaluru, Jul 27: After the lockdown terms were relaxed in Karnataka, the coronavirus pandemic has been on the rise and blocking efforts made to control it. The total number of infected people in the state has gone up to 96,141 as of now. But close observations of certain developments that have taken place here during the last some days give us an indication that Karnataka has been poised for a good recovery.

The first case of infection in the state was reported on March 8. The government immediately enforced lockdown and took aggressive steps against the spread of the infection. Therefore, in the initial days, the spread of the pandemic was limited. But once the lockdown rules were eased and business concerns started operating, it raised its ugly head, refusing to get cowed down by measures taken to bring it under control.

The state has also been undertaking imperative measures to contain the infection. It has started to compel private medical colleges and hospitals to reserve beds for Covid patients and increase the quantum of daily tests. On average, over 21,000 RT-PCR tests and 11,000 other tests are being conducted. Rapid Antigen tests are also going on, taking the total tests so far to about 11.5 lac.

At present, active cases in the state are 55,388. The percentage of active cases rose from 3.32 per cent on July 5 to 7.95 per cent on July 25. Simultaneously, the rate of recovery has been showing improvement.

The ratio of people getting healed till July 21 was on the decline. The percentage of those who were not cured stood at 41.94 per cent as on July 5 but as of July 25, the ratio has come down to 37.11 per cent.

The state has been witnessing a decline in the ratio of deaths out of the infection. The ratio which was about 1.8 per cent during the first week of July had risen to 2.08 per cent on July 20. It reached 2 per cent two days thereafter and stood at 1.97 per cent as on July 25.
