Bengaluru: Apartment residents use tank water with woman's body inside

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Jul 28: In an incident which took place in the fourth stage of Yelahanka Newtown here, a woman ended her life by jumping into the water tank of the apartment complex where she lived.

The woman who committed suicide has been identified as Gauri Nagaraj. The police said that she took this extreme step on account of financial issues. After Gauri had gone missing from home since Friday the family members filed a complaint at the police station. The police after searching found the body that was getting decomposed in the water tank.

In a worrying development, the apartment residents have realized that they had used water from the tank for three days for bathing, drinking, cooking, washing, etc. Now they are fearful that this might adversely affect their health. Over 60 people live in the apartment.

The body of the woman has been removed from the tank and sent for postmortem. The authorities are also subjecting the body to corona test. A case stands registered in Yelahanka Newtown police station.

The police have accessed a ten-page death note in which she has placed the blame on Jayasurya Builders. She has complained against Gopi, Bhargav and Devarajendrappa, members of Jayasurya Builders. Gauri was involved with looking for customers for sites. The police have served notices to the accused on the basis of the death note.

I have one observation. Our tank on the terrace in Mumbai is about 10 ft long and 6 ft wide and about 7 ft deep. Its a concrete tank and stores huge amount of water. The opening is almost 3 ft x 3 ft because the maintenance team needs this space to enter for any emergency maintenance/repairs.

First of all, one must find out if it is a Syntex tank in which she was found or a broad cement tank. Then one could get a fair idea whether or not it is a suicide or something foul has taken place.

May her soul rest in peace. Housing societies must protect their roof tops.

If it is truly a suicide, consider drowning in the tank is one of the possibilities. Unless any one has seen her going in, one can not come to any judgement. In a tank, once you slip in, normally the person loses balance; by chance she had turned turtle within the tank, it is a matter of seconds to intake water thus choking the lungs etc. (it happened to me years ago during beach swimming - though i was fairly a good swimmer, i lost my balance to the tide - i could not lift my head; my friends pulled me out of the open water tank). Leaving any suspicion aside, the Authorities must genuinely investigate this matter. Its an eye opener for all housing societies that they keep their terrace locked always and make the watchman responsible for the key. We do this in Mumbai in most Societies.

somthing wrong looks like. please note, the overhead water tank of any building is not more than 72" to 78" (6feet to 6.5feet) the nody volume of the lady looks like above 5 feet. how can she sink into the low volume ?

she cannot be drawned. and mostly the tank opening is only 2feet x 2feet . how can such a heavy body can jump into the tank thru such a narrow passage? if she jumps; by the time her feet reached to the bottom of the tank, she will be naturally bounced back and she cannot dipped into the water to die.
    somethink, thinkable matter,
    however, Police has to investigate
    RIP,

In some papers, it is reported that the people started to get foul smell in water and around the terrace. Hence, they called the plumber. No resident has fallen sick up to now and water tank is properly cleaned. Yes, as you said, we do not know the mind of the person who is in depression and wants to die.

    Jossey,

Doesn't the water supply company's responsibility end at the boundary of a user ? If the quality of the water deteriorates beyond the compound wall, the entity is not responsible for it.
