Mangalore, Mar 10: “The legislation to ban cow slaughter proposed in the state is only intended to divide people and to create violence in the name of communities which eat beef and others. The law is not due to any love for cows or because the animal is considered holy”, said G N Nagaraj, state leader, Communist Party of India (Marxist), on Tuesday March 9.
Addressing a protest in front of the deputy commissioner’s office in the city organized by Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), Communist Party of India (CPI), Janatha Dal-Secular (JD(S)), and the Muslim Central Committee to oppose the anti-cow slaughter law proposed in the state, he demanded that there is a need for permanent withdrawal of the law, which has been temporarily withdrawn.
“The anti-cow slaughter law in the state is the brainchild of RSS leaders, who want to divide the people of the country in the name of religion and they want to create violence between the beef-eating communities and others”, he said, adding that after their plan to create tension in the state with the ‘Love Jehad’ issue, now they want an issue like the anti-cow slaughter law.
“Pejavar Mutt seer is talking against cow slaughter and more politically, which is a shame to the Madhwa Peeta in Udupi. He should come out from the Mutt and join active politics”, said Nagaraj, adding that the people who oppose cow slaughter and speak about it should read the holy books such as Vedas and Upanishad where there are a lot of instances of eating of beef.
Protesters carried out a rally from Town Hall to deputy commissioner’s office. CPI leaders Vishwanath Naik, P Sanjeeva, CPI(M) leader B M Madhava, Vasantha Achari, and JD(S) leaders J S Noronha, and Abdul Azeez were also present.
