Mangalore, Mar 12:
“Everyone can dream to achieve something or to reach a goal but there should be a proper plan to realize it. Students must have a proper plan ahead of them on what they want to become in future.”  said Dr Shantharam Shetty, Vice Chancellor of Nitte University at 130th college day of St Aloysius College on Friday March 12.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that students of this era have paramount opportunities to achieve, but there should be a plan to achieve the goal or aim. The plan should be discussed with parents and teachers, and should get their support to achieve it, he added.

`There is need for change with the age’, he said adding that when compared to earlier days, the student-teacher  relationship has also changed where teachers now need to respect students.

Fr Joseph Rodrigues, Rector of the college, presided over the function. Fr Swebert D silva, Principal of the college presented the annual report of 2009-10. Dr Harish Joshy, Convener of College day celebrations committee welcomed the gathering.  Guest of honour Dr Shantharam Shetty honoured the achievers with mementos and medals.  Fr Swebert D silva, Principal of the college, was felicitated by guests on his birthday.

The Registrar of the college Dr A M Narahari,  Vice principal Fr Denzil Lobo, Prof Ronald Pinto, Dr A Loudruswamy, Fr Francis D Almeida and  student president Darryl D Souza were present.

The college day celebrations began with a variety of cultural programmes like classical, folk, regional, fusion and Tibetan dances. The cultural dances followed after the formal function.

I feel chocked sometimes when I read about my Alma Mater. ...my school... my college where I got my firm grounding. When I think of my teachers and lecturers I am filled with nostalgia. The teachers who taught me in middle school like Albert Gonsalves and the Head Master Mr. Sequeira.

My friend and mentor in The High School was Father Ignatius Fernandes who thought I would follow in his footsteps but when I assured him that I would do whatever good I could in the world he encouraged me in following my vocation in life. Mr. Raphael Mathias lovingly called as Raphab was the kindest of teachers that I have come across. Later on in the year 1980 I had the pleasure of meeting my guru Pandurang Pai at the centenary celebrations at which I proposed The Centenary Toast and he walked up to me and stared at me and then said I cannot believe your are the same mischievous lad who I taught geography.

I continue to be associated with my Alma Mater in whatever manner I can. This evening (Tuesday - 16TH. march) some of the old alumni are meeting in Beeri to discuss the future of The Project. It is my sincere hope that many of the old students may read the account of St. Aloysius will come forward to support the institution which needs help more than ever before as they have launched on an ambitious program to provide the very best to the future students.

Racing on the right track is a must to complete the race successfully and St. Aloysius College is one of the right tracks where students are trained to achieve their goal. Congratulations on celebration of 130th College Day.

@ Bulsam: Jesuits don't want motivating speech from Dr. Shantharam Shetty. They are trained enough for 14 long years.
