Udupi: 21-year-old dies after speeding car hits him at Kumbragodu

Udupi, Aug 3: A youth died in a road accident here at Kumbragodu, after being hit by a speeding car on Monday, August 3.

Aakash Poojary (21) has been identified as the deceased. It is said that Aakash and Sharath were talking while standing by the roadside on Kundapur-Udupi highway. A speeding Swift Dzire car moving from Udupi to Kundapur car flipped over the divider before hitting Aakash.

Sharath was admitted to Mahesh Hospital in Brahmavar.



The car was driven by a person named Preetham.

Aakash was also brought to Mahesh Hospital where the doctors declared him dead on arrival. Aakash was a resident of Kumbragodu and was working in Mangaluru.

A case was registered at Brahmavar police station.

    Tragic incident. RIP Aakash, Condolences to Aakash family members and its unbearable loss to his parents and siblings.

    Aakash was standing near roadside. Driver reckless driving cost an innocent life. Driver should be punished as per law and his driving license should be withdrawn minimum next 10 years.

    It is high time that a strict highway/expressway code is drawn up and strictly implemented. People have to stop viewing the highways as just another main road of the town. They are important transit ways for uninterrupted traffic movement.
    Eversince, the NH66 has been four laned, we see so many commercial buildings including marriage halls that have developed one either side of the highway with direct approaches to it. People stopping their vehicles wherever they want and chitchatting. Going very slow on fast lane. Not to speak of the numerous barricades, driving against lane direction, numerous unmarked entries and exits, breaking of the median by locals to access easy approach to them and of course compromises made in the highway construction itself due to non availability of land and money.
    All these will lead to accidents in the highway and are eminently preventable with some basic discipline, begining with issuance of driving licenses after a proper test at a proper testing track. Road safety begins there and not holding road safety weeks. After so many years of independence, we do not have testing tracks even in district headquarters despite RTO being a major revenue earner for the goverment.

    Speeding car, speeding bike, speeding lorry..... just these things seen in news which cause accidents.... why there is no news on strict action taken for over speeding.. why is the police quite... such a young age to die and that too not his fault.... i am sure this Preetham will be given bail and he will and he will spend some money on police to be free.. poor thing died and their family knows how it feels....

    Vehicles skid... but the impact depends on how speed you were driving.... if we are not at that speed we can save ours and others life.. if over speed then this is the result.. why cant people drive a bit slower.. and they know this raining.. there might be risk driving faster.. then why.. what so urgent... whats more important to people than life?????

    Very sad.Heartfelt sympathys to the family.May his soul rest in peace.I am sure in mangalore more people die with a road accident than other diseases.Too many vehicles on the road,with or without licences,high speed,drunk driving and not following the rules during driving.How sad. Why people dont realize about this?He was too young .

    So Sad a young life is taken away by the reckless car driver. We have no punishment for these speeding auto drivers. They can come out of it by paying money to police. Our country becoming lawless, with corrupt leaders.
