Bengaluru, Aug 4: Former minister and sitting MLA of Janata Dal (Secular) B Sathyanarayan passed away in a hospital here on Tuesday August 4. He was 67.
He was suffering from multiple organ failure for the past few years.
He was the MLA of Sira in Tumakuru district.
Sathyanarayana was admitted to Manipal Hospital as his condition worsened. But he died without responding to treatment at 12.20 pm on Tuesday.
Sathyanarayan had been elected MLA three times from JD(S) and twice as MP. He had also served as chairman of KSRTC during the coalition government under H D Kumaraswamy.
He is survived by five daughters and a son.
Former Prime Minister and JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda expressed condolences on the MLA's demise. "I am shocked by the demise of B Sathyanarayan who was my friend for three decades. Sathyanarayan was kindhearted and his demise has left a void. I pray that his soul may rest in peace and his family and fans get the strength to bear the loss," he said.
Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president D K Shivakumar too expressed sympathies, recalling that Sathyanarayana was a gentleman who was concerned about farmers, and that his demise was a big loss to politics.
Medical education minister Dr K Sudhakar and health minister B Sriramulu also condoled the MLA's demise.
