Mangaluru, Aug 5: MP and president of Dakshina Kannada District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee president, Nalin Kumar Kateel, asked all the urban local administrations including the city corporation here to evince added interest towards getting all the central government-funded residential schemes completed as soon as possible.

He was speaking after presiding over a meeting of the district development coordination and monitoring committee at Netravati auditorium of the zilla panchayat on Tuesday August 4.

Deputy commissioner (DC) of the district Dr Rajendra K V, put together information about the applications submitted by the landless people for sites. Nalin inspected the progress of works going on at Balpa, which has been picked for being groomed into an ideal village. Secretary of that gram panchayat informed that 45 out of 74 works costing Rs 11 crore have been completed and works amounting to Rs 25 crore including road and bus stand will be completed by the end of this year.

Zilla panchayat president Meenakshi Shantigodu, chief executive officer Dr Selvamani R, MLA Umanath Kotian, Sullia taluk panchayat president Chaniya Kaltadka, and Mangaluru taluk panchayat president Muhammed Monu, participated in the meeting.

The DC noted that under the Swachh Bharat Mission, disposal of solid waste and effluents should be undertaken properly. Therefore, he told the officials that only apartments and complexes which are ready to install sewage treatment plants (STP) alone should be granted permission. He also asked them to serve notices on those who have not installed STPs in spite of having sufficient space for the same.

Kateel instructed to speed up all the schemes relating to national highways in the district. He urged the officials to hasten works on Karkala-Moodbidri-Mangaluru, and B C Road-Punjalkatte highway development works. He also said that road works which were stranded on account of coronavirus-related issues have to be taken up and completed on a war footing. He said that the scheme of constructing road from Ullal Netravati bridge to Kannur mosque via Jappinamogaru has been dropped as there is land acquisition problem.

Nalin took the officials to task for the failure of a committee that was formed during the previous meeting to study the last year's landslide of the garbage dump at Pachanady here to submit report to him. That committee was headed by the additional deputy commissioner. The DC then asked district project director of the district urban development cell, Gayatri Nayak, to form an investigation committee headed by an officer of the rank of joint director with instruction to submit report within a week.

Corona testing being increased

DC Dr Rajendra K V, said that there is a need to increase the number of coronavirus checks in the district. He said that towards this end, it has been decided to undertake 1,000 tests everyday within the city limits.

He was speaking at the District Development Committee meeting. He said that rapid antigen testing centres will be opened in all the 60 wards of the corporation.

"We will also be opening kiosks at ward levels. A separate unit will be setup in the office of the district health officer to check whether the bills pertaining to coronavirus treatment in private hospitals are commensurate with the rates fixed by the government," he explained.

Former Chief Minster Siddaramaiah had set aside Rs. 50 crore for fourlaning 2.5 km stretch of this road including Maravoor bridge in 2017-18 budget. But we don't know what he did with that money.

The next CM Kumaraswamy was never interested in the Coastal region. But, the current CM's silence on this matter indicates how inefficient are local BJP MLAs in getting money for development works.

The minister are interested only in development of bangalore.because the percentage in each project is 20.eventhough it is warned by dept the ground water level is zero after 5years and no new building has to permitted the Bangalore is clearing dozen of huge project each day.it is feared it is difficult get a bucket of drinking water is few years. So image which authority is interested in development of Mangalore. That is why flyover takes 10years,busstop takes more then 10years.noe we have a little hope Nalini sir with the help of his good report with center take up our issues and we all work with him
