Udupi: Fake message in name of Manipal police goes viral on social media

Udupi, Aug 6: A fake message is being circulated on social media in the name of Manipal police station urging people to be aware of a 'ladies’ gang which visits houses with a motive of selling phenyl, makes them unconscious with the phenyl smell and steals the jewellery and valuables’.

Debunking the claims made by the message on social media, Manipal police officials have come forward and said, "We have not released any such messages to the public. No such gang is either being operated in Udupi or any other nearby areas. The incident has been reported from Vijayapura district 10 days ago and Vijayapura police had released a caution notice to the public."

As per sources, the viral message had the official number of Manipal police station. Earlier, the same message was being circulated in Shivamogga district with a change in the name of the place and mobile number.

    The person who initiated message should be caught and put behind bars.
    There are many hardworking women and girls making their living by selling phenol bottles door to door. This message might make many people to chase away such girls.
    Police should not just forget about the case considering it as a mere fake message.
