New Delhi, Aug 8 (IANS): The Delhi police nabbed the Thak Thak gang members involved in a robbery case of July 21. The CCTV video of the robbery went viral on social media platforms including Whatsapp and Facebook. In the CCTV video, the victim of the robbery was seen in a blue car as he was targeted by the 'Thak Thak' gang. A boy was seen lifting a bag from back seat of the car.
Police said that the accused Pawan, a resident of Ambedkar Nagar in Delhi along with a juvenile robbed the man by distracting his attention.
Sharing the gang's modus operandi, Atul Thakur, DCP South Delhi said, "They randomly targeted luxury cars particularly during peak hours. One of the accused punctured the tyre of the target car with a sharp pointed object mostly at traffic signals and when the driver or owner of the car came out to check or replace the punctured tyre, then one of the accused took away the valuables from the car."
The viral CCTV footage was scrutinised by the police in their effort to identify and nab the accused. One of the accused was identified by the police team. On August 5, the police received information regarding movement of two suspected persons on BRT Road, near Jahanpanah park, Chirag Delhi. Two persons on a Scooty were intercepted. One of the riders was a juvenile while the other was identified as Pawan. The accused was asked to produce documents of the vehicle but they failed to do so.
On search of the apprehended persons, four stolen mobile phones and Rs 45,000 cash stolen from Adarsh Nagar was recovered. On sustained interrogation, they disclosed that they had committed a theft of Rs 1 lakh along with their two other accomplices and the booty was distributed among them. The recovered money was a part of the booty stolen in that case.
