BSNL employees are 'traitors', 'unwilling to work': BJP MP Ananthkumar Hegde

Bengaluru, Aug 12 (IANS): Ananthkumar Hegde, BJP MP from Karnataka's Uttara Kannada, has stoked controversy after he termed state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited's (BSNL) employees as "traitors" and said that the company would be privatised.

"Employees in BSNL are traitors who are not willing to work," he had said in Kannada at a meeting in Kumta on Monday.

Hegde said the company with 88,000 employees will be privatised.

"The government gave money and people need services but the employees do not work," he said.

According to the MP, the company has become a "disgrace" to the entire country and the government will shut it down.

He said the government will implement a disinvestment policy to close the company so that private entities can take over the vacuum left by it.

Hegde said the Prime Minister talks about Digital India and allocates funds for it but the employees do not work, requiring the central government to remedy the problem by privatising BSNL. The BJP MP has courted controversy on many occasions earlier with his statements.

Probably this MP does not know the facts. These MPs are voted blindly only because of modi wave. Ananth kumar Hegde has done nothing, simply nothing to uttara kannada/sirsi having been elected 5/6 times. Call him traitor.
BSNL is just not getting funds. Many exchange have no money to buy diesel for generator during power supply. This is one example. No funds to purchase required materials Why approval was not given by this government to BSNL to start 4G. These are so e examples this MP should ask his government. But he will not. These only know how to fake everything and tame everything. Jai hind

What he said about BSNL is true for most of the central , state govt and municipal offices, some of them are much worse than BSNL.There should be a hire and fire policy by changing labour laws and basic salaries should be fixed (at a much lower slab) and incentives proportionate to the good work (and behavior) should be given- based on feedback from clients.

Government employees become lazy because of lazy Govt.

Before 2014 BSNL doing good business and making profit which was contributing along with tax payers for the development of Country.

If the Government not providing them proper training, proper office ambience etc. then the performance will decline. Govt. employees also deserve appreciation for good work and punishment when they are not, Salaries of Govt employees must be upgraded as per industry standard and provision of termination of the employment must be there if they are not performing

Even though I don't support this politician for his past number of childish press con and speech, here I fully agree with him as I faced similar problems. We had approx. 35year land line, initially two digits. Recently I have cancelled connection as, its working hours reduced to 10/20 mean to say 10days in a month service available and 20days dead. But the service provider don’t forget to send monthly bill of approx. RS415/- as rental, tax so on. On the other hand for compliant, we have to call using service provider SIM mobile. From other mobile, they don’t entertain the compliant. And other line at Mangalore FTTH was discounted by me as, initially package charges started from Rs860/-PM- within one year reached to 1560/- PM. Without any explanation. And availability of service per day 5/24.Always need to reset the modem even though UPS provided. On enquiry response is “may be used extra data” IT is funny response how a giant company can give “May be” When requested to cancel, without any question they disconnected the service after returning back the instruments. NO customer care rep called to enquire the reason as they are list bothered with their customers as they get their salary on time.

Almost all, including the BSNL employees, agree that they are very poor in terms of work ethics, efficiency and so on.

But are they TRAITORS?? If someone is not willing to work, in Kannada they are called "Somari"

For these jokers label everyone whom they don't like with all these names, TRAITORS, Anti_nationals, Deshdrohis and so on.

BTW, can you point out how many politicians, including from your Jokers Party, are "'willing to work' for they are chosen from people to serve them???

That the story of govt employees....Salary for free...if have to work...they expect more! Who will buy BSNL...? It should merge with Jeo with liability! Lethargic attitude of employees will not work in private firm like Jeo. You need to earn your salary. There are good people among govt employees, but their number could be little.

Though politically I am not with Mr. Hegde, in this issue he is absolutely right. I have faced a lot of issues with their support. BSNL would have survived if services were outsourced to private sub-contractors.It is a grave mistake of BSNL by getting the services done by their own employees who are not accountable and are irresponsible. Their service in rural areas is pathetic.
I have recently cancelled my Bharath Fibre and got Jio Fibre installed just because during Lockdown period no official of BSNL received my phone call when fibre got snapped. BSNL employees digged their own grave by not serving people and now the same lazy employees are blaming the government.

Absolutely true by what he said.
I had given complained regarding our house landline phone not working almost two months back. Daily giving complaints and so many times gone to the exchange but only answer no ppl and due to corona nobody is willing to go.
Simply paying money for the phone. We had kept it only it was our old medium of communication. It was kept by all our family members, but due to the carelessness of the employees we have disconnected the Bsnl landline phones in all my relatives houses.
When this is the response of the staff, then who wants to use the Bsnl landline phones.
It should be privatised then only these ppl will understand the pain of the job.

Visit any BSNL office for lodging a complaint regarding your landline. It is disgusting. Nobody seems to be working there. Job security is the reason. Even after repeated complaints no one will attend to your complaints stating that they are short of staff. All the office staff are idling whenever you go there but they find no time to attend to the complaints. Public sector way of life. Only know to pocket their salary but no accountability!

Just before retirement, officers place order of goods which are obsolete just for their commission. One of the employees told long time back.
Now the main asset is land that they have owned. Due to high property price they can recover their losses by selling the properties. God only knows how my Internet will work in the future which breaks every fortnights.

Absolutely correct, bsnl people dont work even for 1% of salary they take. Here in many places their network goes off, when Power goes.
