Muzaffarnagar (Uttar Pradesh), Aug 12 (IANS): An idol of Lord Hanuman was desecrated at a temple in Muzaffarnagar, following which additional police force has been deployed in the area.
The incident took place on Tuesday at a Shiv temple in Saidpura Kala village where the idol was kept.
According to Charthawal Station House Officer (SHO) Sube Singh, a case has been registered against the unidentified miscreants on a complaint of temple priest Pandit Balbir.
The SHO said that devotees began a protest soon after they saw the broken idol.

Police officials pacified the devotees and assured them of strict action against the accused. The officials also assured that the damaged idol would be replaced with a new one.
The situation is under control, Singh added.
