Udupi: ‘Brahmakalashabisheka’ at Kaup Sri Laxmi Janardhan Temple from Mar 27

Udupi, Mar 19: The installation of the idol of Lord Ganapati and inauguration of the newly-laid granite portico and sanctuary will be held at Sri Laxmi Janardhan Temple, Kaup, from Saturday March 27 to Monday April 2.  

“The temple has been fully renovated at a cost of Rs 3.5 crore.  Meanwhile, the ‘Brahmakalashabishek’ will be held with pomp and gaiety on Thursday April 1”, said K Vasudev Shetty, president of the temple building committee.







 

Addressing media persons in a press conference held at the temple auditorium here, he said that the religious celebrations will begin with the head load offerings on Saturday March 27.  

The idol of Lord Ganapati and other deities will be installed on Monday March 29.  Brahmakalashabishek offerings of 108 vessels will be held on Thursday April 1. Daily offering of free food to the deities will be held for the entire week. 

Sri Vishweshateerta Swami and Sri Vishwaprasannateerta of Pejavar Mutt, Sri Kalahastendra Saraswati Swami of Anegundi Saraswati Peeta, Katpady, Sri Esha Vittaldas Swami of Sandipani Sadhana Ashram, Katpady, Sri Chandrashekar Swami of Bangalore, NRI entrepreneur B R Shetty, Abu Dhabi, state home minister Dr V S Acharya, MP D V Sadanand Gowda, MLAs Lalaji R Mendon, and Raghupati Bhat, Pratapchandra Shetty, All India Billava Federation president Jaya Suvarna, former MLAs, ministers, and deputy commissioners of both Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts and other dignitaries will attend the religious celebrations.

“A concert by internationally-renowned musician Suramani Praveen Godkindi will be held as part of the cultural programme.  Yakshagana play ‘Kada Mallige’ will be staged by Mangaladevi Yakshagana troupe with state award winning Yakashagana artiste Mijar Annappa.  ‘Hasyotsav’ by Bangalore based Richard Lewis group, dance recital by renowned Bharagavi dance troupe, and a Tulu drama by Ranga Taranga will also be staged”, said Vasudev Shetty.
 
The history of Sri Laxmi Janardhan Temple, Kaup, dates back to the 13th century AD.  It is one of the ancient temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The first phase of renovation for the sanctuary was held six years ago at a cost of Rs. 1.5 crore.  

The second phase which involved laying a granite portico, façade, and the idol of Lord Ganapati was held at a cost of Rs 3.5 crore.  The religious celebrations will be held from Saturday March 27 to Monday April 2, and will be conclude with the Brahmakalashabishek on Thursday April 1.

The village level committees were formed in Mallar, Muloor, Padu, Uliyargoli, and Bijoor.  The sub-committees were formed in Bangalore and Mumbai to contribute their mite for the grand religious celebrations. 

Temple managing committee president M Jayaram Shetty Muloor, members Kaup Divakar Shetty Kotwalguttu, K Sakhendra Suvarna Padu-Kapu, Baby S Mendon Kaipunjal, Sarojini J Shetty Karandady, Ravindra Mallar, renovation committee president Shashidar K Shetty Yermal, K Vishwanath Kaup, temple priest Shrisha Tantri, Mahabala Shetty, Ratnakar Hegde, Jayaram Acharya, and Shekar Salian were present at the press meet.
