Palestinians protest against normalisation agreement between Israel, UAE

Gaza/Ramallah, Aug 15 (IANS): Hundreds of Palestinians demonstrated in the West Bank and Gaza against the United States' sponsored normalization agreement between Israel and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The Islamic Jihad Movement and other Palestinian factions organised the demonstration in Gaza city. Leaders of the factions, including the Hamas movement, joined the protest on Friday, Xinhua news agency reported.

The crowds went out from al-Omari main mosque in Gaza city, waving flags and chanting slogans against the UAE. They marched the main street and gathered at Palestine square in the city's downtown.

They carried banners writing "Palestine is not for sale" "No for normalization and no for those who lead normalization with the occupation" and "normalization is a knife in the back of the Palestinian people."

Member of the Islamic Jihad Movement's political bureau Khaled Al-Batsh renewed the Palestinian people's condemnation and rejection of the agreement, calling on the UAE to withdraw its recognition of Israel immediately.

Hamas movement leader Mushir al-Masri addressed during the demonstration on behalf of the other factions' leaders that the Palestinian people described the declaration of the agreement as "a black day for our people and cause."

"The agreement is a total betrayal of the Palestinian cause and an unpardonable diplomatic action that no one forgives. It is a stab in the back of the Palestinians and gives free services to the occupation," al-Masri said.

Protests also took place in some West Bank cities.

Simple logic, end of the day all are concerned of their own interest and well being.
There are no permanent friends or enemies. Each country will decide what is best for them.
As per reliable news reports, even Oman and Bahrain are likely to follow UAE.
One thing is certain, world is slowly moving towards electricity run Cars and Battery /CNG run Cars to reduce pollution and dependency on crude oil. Demand for crude oil is definitely slowing down.
Arabs also have to work, adopt changing technology and live like rest of the world!

The world is tired of terrorism, riots , hostage taking, damaging public property. Why would developing countries support such culture. Peace and prosperity is the need of the hour. Every immigrant destination is in crisis today. US, UK, Britan, Australia , Newzealand and many more. The Host countries are paying a heavy price for granting asylum to such people. In places like Birmingham in UK , locals born there have fled to other parts fearing their lives . Forget walking, they cannot drive out in peace.

Why protest? I have lived in Lebanon for 40 years . Its culture, way of living, citizens., landscape ,demograhpy etc resembled European countries . It was such a peaceful and scenic country and known as the Eden of the Middle East .

In the 70s the then minority appeasing political party started to accept fleeing Palestinians and gave them land and house to settle. Besides asylum the party even built their places of worship . Soon Hezbollah and its many wings started forming in every nook and corner and the resistance began to change it to a different religious country altogether. The rest is History.

Over a period of 4 decades , Lebanon is now reduced to a country in tatters. Some educated people fled and settled abroad. Why does the world need to appease and support such people??

I agree with you, The 9/11 of Lebanon was in 1975 when the Palestinians arrived. It was a 70% Catholic Country and today its less than 20%. In 1982 , 15 terrorist organizations operated from Beirut and mind you they were all immigrants who wanted to change Lebanon into a... nation.

This should be a good lesson for Minority appeasing political parties in India. If they don't stop , India will have to face the same fate. Secularism does not mean appeasement.

Palestinians had many many opportunities to lead from the front. But they squandered every such opportunity with great arrogance.

The Gulf countries lost much by supporting the Palestinian cause. But with UAE's decision, the tide has turned against the Palestinians for good. There is writing on the wall that Bahrain and Oman are next in line.

Most of the current Palestinian leaders - both political and activist - are getting pretty old. They have no strength and energy left in them.

The world should look at UAE with respect and admiration. It really takes a strong spine, tolerance, inclusiveness and very very forward thinking with a great vision for any country to become like UAE. In fact that is what makes UAE as it is now, the developed nation, withstanding all the recessions, being the most tolerant and safe country in the world with almost 200 nationalities residing together!!!

... many countries in the Gulf ruled by Sheikhs support India or they are neutral (except Qatar) on issues like Kashmir. If these countries turn into democracy, I bet all will be anti-India.
