National Conference on Financial Reporting Standards Inaugurated

Mangalore, Mar 19: “Transparency is the most importance aspect in any kind of administration. As such, it has to be preserved by giving it utmost importance and it should be pursued as a noble goal which all of us should cherish,’ said Dr K N Vijayaprakash, commissioner of the local City Corporation, while inaugurating a two-day national level conference on `Financial Reporting Standards and Tax Reforms’ on Friday March 19, organized by faculty of commerce in St Aloysius college.
Speaking on the occasion at the Eric Mathias Hall of the college, he said that an administration which is run by adopting reforms and valuable practices always succeeds in creating good impression among the others. Transparency being a valuable virtue in the society, it adds more value to the administration, he said, adding that workshops and seminars allow the participants to refresh themselves in time and helps them to acquire more knowledge.
Reforms spread through the conferences help one to improve academically and the society at large to improve productivity, he added, and wished all the success to the seminar and hoped that it will come out with newer ideas in the field of commerce.
Fr Joseph Rodrigues, rector of the college, presided over the inaugural programme. Dr A M Narahari, registrar of the college, was also present.
Dr Suresh Poojary, dean of the commerce department, welcomed the participants, by giving a brief about the seminar. Prof Manuel Tauro, organizing secretary, proposed vote of thanks. Faculty member of the commerce department, Jenniffer Quardos, conducted the programme.
The seminar will have technical sessions, International Financial Reporting Standards - Issues and Challenges, with the participation of Sushil K Shenoy, deputy chief finance officer and head of finance in ONGC-MRPL as resource person, and Dr Prakash Pinto, dean, faculty of MBA in St Joseph college of Engineering.
Dr Ramesh S, dean in Mount Carmel College, Bangalore, will be the resource person for the session on Ethical Issues in Accounting and Corporate Governance, which will be presided by Prof B V Raghunandan, faculty from SVS College, Bantwal.
The session on Research in Accounting- Issues and Opportunities, will be presided over by Dr Rajashekar H, reader of PG studies in commerce in Mysore University, and Prof Mallikarjunappa from Mangalore University will be the resource person.
On Sauturday March 20, the session on ‘Tax Reforms with Reference to Direct Tax Code’ will be presided over by Prof Sadashiva Rao of Poornaprajna College in Udupi. Chartered accountant, Chandrakanth Rao, will be the resource person.
The fifth session on Tax Reforms with Reference to GST will be presided over by chartered accountant, Narasimhadas Pai, and chartered accountant, Sanjay M Dhariwal, will be the resource person.
The valedictory of the conference will be held on Saturday March 20.
