Lebanon receives more donations following Beirut's blasts


Beirut, Aug 16 (IANS): Lebanon received more support and donations from foreign countries, following the explosions that rocked Beirut's port on August 4, LBCI local TV channel reported.

Lebanon received three aircraft carrying food and medical equipment from Egypt, while one aircraft arrived in Beirut from Iraq with tonnes of humanitarian assistance, Xinhua news agency reported on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Kuwait continued to send support to Lebanon, the Gulf country started its assistance for Beirut on the second day after the explosions.

Russia sent on Saturday two aircraft carrying medical, health and humanitarian support.

Also, Turkey offered on Saturday to rehabilitate Al-Amin mosque and Mar Gerges Cathedral as stated by Turkish Ambassador to Lebanon Hakan Cakil following his visit to these two religious landmarks.

On the other hand, a number of Lebanese expatriates sent donations to owners of trucks working at Beirut's port to compensate them for their losses after the destruction of their vehicles due to the blasts.

Two huge explosions rocked Port of Beirut on August 4, shaking buildings all over Lebanon's capital, while killing at least 177 people and wounding 6,000.

The explosions posed a great challenge to Lebanon especially that the country is already facing its worst economic crisis in its history.

    Lebanon has not come clean about the stock pile of explosives. Was it the main source of supply of Hamas ? Why everyone is tight lipped ? When you feed snakes in your backyard they will bite you sooner or later.
    Countries sending aid should be careful and monitor where the aid goes.

    Lebanon was a beautiful peaceful Christian country, ravaged several times by Palestinians and now an Islamic nation. It's busy shopping street then is now a ghost town and the World Trade Center is still an empty structure. The Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon atop a hill connected by rope ways is a magnificent place.

    Yes you are right... Once Lebanon people was one of the heavy spending people in the middle east, because of the Christians they had that pride but now no more since the Christians migrated to Australia and else where.
