IPL Cricket : Sahara Bags Pune, Rendevous gets Kochi

Chennai, Mar 21 (Agencies) : The suspense over the two new IPL teams is finally over as Sahara Adventure Sports (Pune) and Rendevous Sports Ltd ( Kochi ) are set to join the cash-awash event from 2011 season.

The highest bid was that of Sahara Adventure Sports Ltd for Ahmedabad, Nagpur and Pune for $370 million and they chose Pune, which received three bids. The second highest was Rendevous Sports Ltd who bid $333.33 million for Kochi .

The process was to be completed on March 7 but was postponed by two weeks after the bidders and the BCCI objected to stiff financial clauses.

Earlier, Groups with a net worth of $1 billion were allowed to be part of the process and that too with a bank guarantee of $100 million.

"The auction could not be held earlier but this time we are sure of opening the bids to find out the largest bidder. But it is likely to take time since the IPL Committee need to peruse the documents and financial standing of the winners before being made public," one source said..

The successful bidders will be given 48 hours to pay 10 per cent of their bid price.

    Dear Joe,

I will point out 2 things from your statement:

    1. Keralites have learnt the intelligence from the people of Mangalore by way of getting education, business out here which means that: No Desciple (Kerala) can be greater than the Master (Mangalore)

    2. We dont have a crying baby like Sreeshanth. We RCB have the Wall(Dravid), Jumbo(Kumble), Khallis(All Rounder) and the Destroyer(Uthappa). Now you think and tell me whether you can defeat them.

    Howz Thaaat?

Joe, It is obvious that no person in the world has any positive thoughts about keralities except for people of kerala. I do agree that we cannot generalise but majoority of them are dangerous, and back stabbers. You can belive a cobra but not a malbari. FYI, the viewership of IPL for 2011 will definetely be less than 2010, because of the new keral team.

Most of the commenters are very jealous about Kerala. I don't understand whats your problem with Keralites. Is because they are much much smarter than Mangaloreans??? Instead of keeping these kind of negative thoughts, come up and defeat them, if u can!!

Mr. Michael, i completely agree with u. Pune is famous for Hockey game, and all star hockey players like Dhanraj Pillai & many others came from this city but they are still unknown in India due to the popularity of Cricket. All Sports should be treated equally instead of encouraging only cricket.

Mr.Michal..Government of India is nothing to do with IPL. It is totally PRIVATE. Millions of people are enjoying by watching IPL matches irrespective of Poor & Rich . It is a good chance for youngsters to show their talent and earn money. There is always complaint agaisnt cricket game that people don't work when there is live telecast on Tv.At the same time no one questions about films which are shown everyday on TV. Cricket is the only one Sport which brought special respect to India. India finished 8th place in the recently concluded Hockey world cup.How can this game attract people ? Had India won the World Cup Hockey, it would have become more famous in India. To me cricket gives happiness and it is a pain killer.Long Live Cricket..Long Live IPL

Cricket should be encouraged for younger generation, but not this way specially in India when people dying with our a propoer food.... common guys..modi... think ... other area which need to be boosted? It’s good to watch in TV about all IPL matches.. And it's fun... behind this 90% of the people after money only..... I believe government should restrict such huge amount of money tournament and minimize the cost of the tournament for the sake of india at least for the next 15 years until we see Indian other areas getting better ( electricity, foods, unemployment, education, carrier growth) , then you target to turnover the money? Of course all sports should be promoted in india.. Not only IPL, wot is BCIC's contribution to india for other development including IPL?
