Another Covid vaccine undergoing tests at hospital in Belagavi

Belagavi, Aug 21: Jeevan Rekha Hospital here, which is conducting clinical trials on Covaxin, a vaccine for coronavirus infection, is also engaged in testing the Covid vaccine manufactured by another company.

The other vaccine which is undergoing tests at the said hospital has been manufactured by Zydus Cadila of Cadila Healthcare Group, Ahmedabad. Zydus Cadila has already started clinical trials of its vaccine in the preliminary stage in several hospitals across the country. For the second phase of the trial, it has chosen a few hospitals in the country. Jeevan Rekha Hospital Belagavi happens to be the only hospital to have been chosen by the company for the trial in the entire Karnataka state.

Doctor of the hospital, Dr Amit Bhate, said that the vaccine, zycov-D is under experimentation and 100 persons were administered with this vaccine in his hospital so far. He said that this is a vaccine that helps people to improve resistance against diseases and that people voluntarily came forward to get them self-administered with this vaccine.

"This vaccine has been given two times to four persons on the first day and the 14th day. The second phase of Covaxin will be administered during the first week of September. So far none of the people who got the vaccine has shown any side effects. It takes a minimum of 28 days for the disease resistance to build in the body. Thereafter, the people will be checked once a month," Dr Bhate stated.
