New Delhi: Former IPS officer ‘Singham Annamalai’ joins BJP

New Delhi, Aug 25 (IANS): Former IPS officer, often referred to as Karnataka's 'Singham', K. Annamalai joined the BJP in New Delhi to add edge to the saffron party's effort in making inroads in Tamil Nadu, a state where the party is virtually non existent.

Quoting 'Thirukkural', a classic Tamil language text, the former super cop-turned-politician highlighted the significance of adding 'nationalist' spirit.

Considered one of the greatest works on ethics and morality, the quote from Valluva's book is significant as BJP is widely seen as a party of Hindi heartland that seeks to impose the Hindi language on Tamils. This reference to the Tamil text that was authored hundreds of years before Christ, surely seems to bring home the point of the BJP in a state where it is not seen favourably.

Joining in the presence of BJP General Secretary P. Muralishra Rao and Tamil Nadu BJP President L. Murugan, Annamalai quoted 'Thirukkural' to say he will serve the saffron party as a loyal soldier.

BJP's General Secretary (Organization) B.L. Santosh is believed to have ensured this induction, behind the scene. Santosh is the same man who is also believed to have brought Pawan Kalyan to the NDA fold a few months back.

Just before joining, the BJP's new face in Tamil Nadu met the party's Mysuru MP and a young turk Pratap Simha in the national capital.

Annamalai, the 36-year-old former IPS officer called the BJP a nationalist party and while quoting Thirukkural, he added that he can contribute to that steam of belief as well. After resigning from service, he had launched an organisation with an aim to work with farmers in Karur and Coimbatore.

New Delhi: Former IPS officer Annamalai set to join BJP on Tuesday

Daijiworld Media Network - New Delhi (SP)

New Delhi, Aug 25: Former IPS officer Annamalai, who was known for his people-friendly, no-nonsense and bold approach when in service, is set to join the BJP on Tuesday August 25 at 11 am. It is learnt that he is expected to join the BJP at New Delhi in the presence of BJP national president J P Nadda.

Annamalai had earned lot of popularity when working as deputy superintendent of police and superintendent of police in Karnataka. He was fondly known with the nickname, 'Singham' among the masses. He had abruptly resigned from service during May 2019.

Annamalai

Annamalai told the media that since the last few months, he was checking the options and had finally decided to join the BJP and begin his political innings.

It is learnt that Annamalai had spoken to several other parties including super star, Rajinikanth. Finally, he has made up his mind to join hands with the BJP. He said that his ideologies naturally gel with those of the BJP. He feels that the people in Tamil Nadu have a wrong notion about the BJP. Therefore, he feels he has an opportunity to nurse the party and build its popularity in Tamil Nadu.

The problem he faces is career growth. Like we all look for good organizations to work with for better career prospects and the moolah, Annamalai too is in the same boat. His growth in the grand old party will be limited to being a chamcha of the Ramu Kaakas . If his maska maarring capabilities are good , he might be allotted a Muslim majority safe constituency to contest and win. In BJP he might get a chance to contest and perform . So its obvious. He may have made the right choice. We saw some people in Mangalore too contest in BJP but unfortunate that they could not win.

Till now, as a police officer, he could just send out orders and his subordinates would follow without questions. Public had a good image of him and used to support him always. He just had to fight the criminals.

Now that he is into politics, he will have to support the decisions of his party if he agrees with it or not. Slowly that image of good man will fade away, as expectations from public are higher than normal politicians. If he stands for his principles his own party members will start pulling his legs.
