Panaji, Aug 25: Varun Nayyar, a 30-year-old belonging to a prominent restaurateur family was arrested on charges of sexually abusing a special child. A day after his arrest, there was social media outrage after posts relating to the case went viral.

The police remand has been extended from the initial three days to five days.

An alarm was raised on social media post by Avelino de Sa of Disability Rights Association of Goa. The incident is second of such kind where the victim is a special child happening within a week.

De Sa in its post said, "Goa reported its second case of sexual assault of special needs child in one week. No offence registered under Section 92 of the Rights of the Persons with Disability Act, 2016, in both cases. Implement #RPWDAct 2016".

In the latest sexual abuse case, the Popular Front of India-Goa members demanded police protection for the girl. "Popular Front of India-Goa request the law enforcing authorities to give full protection to the victim girl and not allow any influential politicians to interfere in the case," the organization said.

A case was filed against Nayyar after the 13-year-old girl's parent filed a complaint. The victim is said to be suffering from dyslexia. The accused reportedly took the girl to an isolated place in Panaji in his car and sexually molested and abused her.
