Udupi, Aug 25: Nagarjun D Poojary, serving as a sanitary supervisor in the municipality here, has been showing tremendous social concern. He is the son of Dinesh and Jaya D Poojary and resides at Gundibail here.

Poojary acquired a commerce degree but took up civil work. As per information, about 84 corona-infected people have died in Udupi district, and Nagarjun performed the funerals of 69 among them properly and handed over the ashes to the family members. Since the last four months, he has been leading a team that cremates the bodies and has been serving the people selflessly.

Nagarjun is also an accomplished cricketer, having played for different cricket teams here. He also has performed exceedingly well in the tournaments on behalf of best teams like Johnson Kundalpur, Challenge Kundapur and Eagles Kumbhashi. So far he has bagged over 350 ‘Man of the Match’ awards, more than 170 best batsman and bowler awards and over 45 ‘Man of the Series’ awards. By training the cricket team of the women's first grade college here for three years free of cost, he played a stellar role in helping them to win awards four times.

The fact that he was adjudged the best bowler, man of the match and man of the series in the final match in the Billawa inter-state level tournament with two lac rupees award, organized recently at Vijaya College ground at Mulky speaks for his dedication and hard work. His style of batting and capacity to turn the ball in an intelligent way has created a huge fan following for him.

Poojary says that after PPE kits came to be used, he has been properly disposing bodies off and providing ashes to families. He says that before entering his house, he properly sanitizes himself. Nagarjun says he has been continuing with this work in the form of a small service during the harrowing times of corona infection. He says that after the lockdown began, he has never availed any leave. He also was involved with sanitization drives, providing food to the destitute, and visiting 10 to 30 houses everyday to spread awareness about corona.

As he is very busy now, he is finding it hard to play cricket but he does not miss tournaments if any.

Such persons should be definitely appreciated, and celebrated.
In times like this, it is the service of these people that is of utmost importance . They too belong to the team of covid warriors along with the health fraternity. Actually they are doing a bit more than the health fraternity in pacifying the families who are bereaved and confused.
They deserve our Heartfelt Thanks .
