Bengaluru, Aug 25: Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is planning to introduce app-based taxi and courier services all over the state. Discussions are still at a preliminary stage. Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is likely to extend technological support for the project.

These are planned to improve the earnings of the company. KSRTC wants to enter into an agreement with ISRO for extending technology-related assistance for a number of its services. A coordinator will work as a link between ISRO scientists and the government. Sources said that mobile-based taxi service will be one of these services.

The corporation officials have already finished the first round of discussions. In the next phase, they will meet senior ISRO scientists. Plans are afoot to involve northwest and northeast KSRTC units to start courier services. The chief minister will initiate the services soon and the cash-strapped corporation aims at earning revenue of Rs 100 crore annually through the services.

KSRTC has its reservation franchisees at a number of places. Customers can hand over their parcels to the franchisees. The parcels reach the bus stands nearest to the address given from where agency staff will deliver them at the customer's doorsteps, sources stated.
