Mangalore, Mar 26: A number of people witnessed the ‘Ravana Dahana’ held as part of the Sri Ramotsava organized by Vishwa Hindu Parishat, Bajarang Dal, and Ramotsava celebrations committee at Nehru Maidan in the city on Thursday March 25.

The Ravana Dahana was part of the Sri Rama Navami celebrations held to mark the killing of Ravana by Lord Rama on this day as per the epic Ramayana.

The Ravana Dahana at Nehru Maidan was celebrated in a grand manner with the bursting of a lot of crackers which were set afire within the idol of Ravana with an arrow fired by the person playing Rama.

Sri Ramotsava celebrations committee had arranged the programme as part of Rama Navami.

The programme began on Tuesday March 23 with various rituals and cultural events. A temporary temple or ‘Rama Mandira’ was also constructed at the venue.

Ramnavami or the birthday of Lord Rama falls on the 9th day of the bright fortnight of the month of Chaitra (March-April). Ramnavami is one of the important festivals of the Vaishnava sect of the Hindus. On this auspicious day, devotees repeat the name of Rama with every breath and vow to lead a righteous life. People pray to attain the final beatitude of life through intense devotion towards Rama and invoke him for his blessings and protection. In the south of India the "Sri Ramnavami Utsavam" is celebrated for nine days with great fervor and devotion. In temples and at pious gatherings the learned narrate the thrilling episodes of the 'Ramayana'. The Kirtanists chant the holy name of Rama and celebrate the wedding of Rama with Sita on this day.
The Ravana Dahana has nothing to do with Ramnavami but was celebrated by the evil-minds and it is a shadow attack and threats showcased to the minorities which is a cheap gimmick by the VHP/BJ to show that they are the guardian of Hindutvas which is not true.
They should know that hatred will bring more hatred and love will unite all.

I hope the organisers as well as the participants would do well to burn the real RAVAN residing within all human beings-which is EVIL.Otherwise "vinashe kaley vipireetha buddhi" would become the reality as recent incidents symbolise. I wish all peace loving citizens a Happy Ram Navami.

It was treat to the eyes to watch the temporary temple erected on the ocasion of Rama Navami celebration. If we go through the banner in the first picture, the place of the celebration was mentioned as KENDRA MAIDAN WHICH means central maidan instead of NEHRU MAIDAN.

Are Sangha Parivar people are averse to the use of Nehru anywhere in their Banner, Cut outs or pahmplets.

Here is a small piece of spiritual significance. Seetha represents the jeevathma or our soul. Ravana represents the mind and the mind is influenced by the 10 diversions comprising the 5 sensual pleasures (Karmendriyam)and 5 Gnendriyams depicted as the 10 heads of Ravana. Seetha is in the captivity of Ravana's kingdom, i.e. Jeevathma resides in the body captained by the mind. Ramayana is the spiritual fight of how the Jeevathma atttains oneness with the Paramathma (represented by Lord Rama) after fighting the mind (i.e. Ravana). I heard it in a discourse today. The life of Rama is a demonstration of an Ideal Man who lives according to the dharma shastras.
