Gandhinagar, Aug 29 (IANS): Gujarat recorded its highest spike of 1,272 coronavirus cases on Friday, taking its tally to 92,601 while the death toll rose to 2,978 as 14 more patients succumbed.
During August so far, the state has seen 31,168 cases, at an average of 1,113 daily.
Meanwhile, a total of 1,050 patients were discharged on Friday, taking the number of cured to 74,551, while the state has 15,072 active cases, including 86 critical patients still on ventilator.
Of the new cases, Surat led with 270, followed by Ahmedabad with 168 and Vadodara with 132.
Rajkot had 112 new cases, Jamnagar 92, Bhavnagar 65, Panchmahals 30, Gandhinagar and Amreli 28 each, Morbi 26, Junagadh 25, Gir-Somnath 24, Banaskantha 23, Kutch 22, Bharuch 21, Mehsana 19, Valsad 18, Anand and Patan 16 each, Dahod and Devbhumi Dwarka 15 each, Navsari 14, Kheda 13, Narmada 12, Chhota Udepur and Mahisagar nine each, Surendranagar eight, Botad seven, Tapi, Sabarkantha, and Aravalli six each, Porbandar five and Dang with two.
Of Friday's deaths, five were reported from Ahmedabad, three in Surat, two each in Vadodara and Rajkot and one each in Amreli and Gir-Somnath.
Ahmedabad leads the fatalities with 1,710 deaths, followed by 619 in Surat, 127 in Vadodara, 84 in Rajkot, 50 in Gandhinagar, 39 in Bhavnagar, 36 in Patan, 26 in Mehsana, 24 in Aravalli, 17 in Panchmahals, 16 each in Banaskantha and Anand, 15 in Kheda and 11 in Bharuch.
However, the state's mortality rate is coming down and is presently at 3.21 per cent.
Till now, health authorities have conducted 21,21,751 RT-PCR tests while 4,91,661 people are under quarantine - 4,91,147 at home and 514 in government facilities.
