Vijayan should quit before NIA reaches his office: BJP

Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 1 (IANS): State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president K. Surendran called upon Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to quit before the National Investigation Agency (NIA) reaches his office after a NIA team arrived at the Secretariat on Tuesday to collect evidence as part of the probe into the gold smuggling case.

Surendra said, "People of Kerala are in shock after the NIA team entered the Secretariat to go ahead with their probe in the gold smuggling case. Vijayan should quit before they enter his office."

An NIA team along with top officials of the CCTV department of the Secretariat reached here on Tuesday to check the visuals to find out if the now arrested and prime accused Swapna Suresh or her associates visited the Secretariat.

The NIA had earlier asked the officials to hand over the CCTV footage to them, but due to the voluminous data which had to be copied, it was not done.

The NIA officials are looking at the visuals from July 2019 till the arrests of the accused.

The NIA team also went around the Secretariat complex to check the position of the CCTV cameras.

"It's now clear that Vijayan does not want to hand over the CCTV visuals to the NIA, as he knows that he will be in trouble. The mysterious fire that broke out in the Secretariat is all part of the conspiracy to destroy the evidence. Even though Vijayan tries to give an impression that the state government is cooperating, but it is actually engaged in destruction of evidence," said Surendran.

The gold smuggling case was unearthed when P. S. Sarith, a former employee of the UAE Consulate here, was arrested by the customs department on July 5 when he was facilitating smuggling of 30 kg of gold in the diplomatic baggage to Thiruvananthapuram from Dubai.

It turned murkier when the name of Swapna Suresh, a former employee of the Consulate, and employed with the state's IT Department, surfaced and more so, when her links with Sivasankar, who held the dual posts of Principal Secretary to Vijayan and state IT Secretary, came out.

The IAS officer was subsequently removed from both the posts and then suspended by Vijayan.

Why Surendran is silent about Sandeep Nair, who is Swapna’s accomplice ? Just because, he was the chauffeur of BJP corporator in Thiruvananthapuram ? Or is it just because he is close with the bigwigs of the BJP in the state ? Why he is silent about the call which came to Customs office, which was traced to BMS office ? Why Vijayan should quit, when he himself asked Modi to conduct any kind of investigation including the Secretariat ? Andh Bhakths will have no answers to these questions for sure.

About Surendran, he contested in Pathanamthitta (Sabarimala is in this place) to take advantage of religious sentiments due to the CPM stance in Sabarimala female entry issue, but lost miserably. But CPM took one stand in the issue and stuck to it and did not change their stand for votes, whereas BJP initially welcomed the Court decision and when they realised that the Court decision was not welcomed by many, they changed their colours, putting even chameleons to shame.

If Vijayan is involved in the matter, he should be punished, no doubt. But that does not mean, we will ever vote BJP to power. If someone is daydreaming, it is like the old Doordarshan serial “Mungeri Lal Ke Haseen Sapne”.

BJP thrives in vacuums...in TN, there is no pan India party, so it will occupy that space slowly but surely...

in KL, Congress was present on and off... however now vacuum is getting created there because congress no longer can be considered as national party and CPM also is skeleton of its former self... worldwide communism has become thing of past... BJP will occupy the space lost by Communists and Congress...

The non-BJP political scene is story without hero... unfortunate for democracy...

This gold smuggling case has come as boon to BJP... they will go for CM's head...

It is well known that both Modi and Amit Shah have a great animosity towards Kerala and no time in ordering a NIA probe which based on this news report appears far fetched being basically a customs related tax evasion case case.
The country is also painfully aware of how central agencies are being misused to target Opposition leaders and parties. Speculation on this score would not have arisen if CBI enquiry was allowed on the Rafale deal being investigated by the Ex CBI Chief Verma or Parlimentary Probe Committees were appointed for the Rafale deal and the Demonitisation Fiasco etc etc.
With selected leaks on the accused and host of misinformation the process of investigation is loosing its credibility.
Having failed to captilise politically with the Supreme Court verdict on Sabarimala in the past Surendran is hoping that the Central agencies will this time around help the BJP in Kerala. If Wishes were Horses ......
