Amreli SP orders 12 cops involved in power theft to vacate quarters

Gandhinagar, Sep 1 (IANS): Amreli Superintendent of Police (SP) Nirlipt Rai on Monday ordered a 'Line Out' for twelve police personnel allegedly involved in power theft.

The policemen who have been asked to vacate the government quarters include two assistant sub-inspectors, three head constables and seven constables serving in different wings of the force.

A joint team of the police and officials of the Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Ltd (PGVCL) raided the government quarters allotted to the police personnel in Amreli and found that 12 of them had tampered with the electricity meters and taken illegal connections bypassing the meter.

"It is found that despite being part of a disciplined force, being fully aware about the law, these police personnel were involved in an illegal act. Their act can influence the other police personnel too. It is not in the public interest to keep them in the Police Line so they must vacate the government quarters within two days," the order by the SP read.

The SP has asked the DSP to take necessary action if the accused policemen fail to vacate the quarters voluntarily.
