Kasargod, Sep 2: Manjeshwar police have confiscated from Uppala, cash worth Rs 17 lac in denotified currency notes of Rs 1,000. Police personnel on rounds along the highway on Wednesday morning found the currency notes when they were inspecting three cars which looked suspicious. One of the three cars with seven people in it is said to have fled.
While one of the remaining cars had Rs 12,89,000 worth notes of Rs 1,000, another car had Rs 5,00,000 lac in it.
Police have said that those in the third car had come to take the money. The officials also have information that a network collecting old currency notes is active in the district.
The cash and cars have been handed over to Manjeshwar police who are conducting further investigations.
