Indian Coast Guard to assist Lankan Navy to douse oil tanker fire


Chennai, Sep 3 (IANS): The Indian Coast Guard on Thursday said it has diverted three of its ships and a Dornier aircraft to assist the Sri Lankan Navy to douse a fire on board an oil tanker 'MT NewDiamond'.

According to the Coast Guard, the Sri Lankan Navy had sought assistance to fight the fire and explosion on board MT NewDiamond. The tanker is 37 nautical miles off the Sri Lankan coast.

The Coast Guard said it had diverted three of its ships - Shaurya, Sarang, Samudra Paheredar and a Dornier aircraft for firefighting operations.
