India enters elite hypersonic missile club

By Sumit Kumar Singh

New Delhi, Sep 7 (IANS): India has successfully flight-tested hypersonic technology that will pave the way towards the development of missiles travelling at six times the speed of sound.

With this successful demonstration, the country enters an elite club to become a member of the hypersonic regime. This is a step towards the manufacture of advanced Hypersonic Vehicles. India became the fourth country after the United States, Russia and China to get this technology.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully demonstrated the Hypersonic air-breathing scramjet technology with the flight test of Hypersonic Technology Demonstration Vehicle (HSTDV) at 11:03 am on Monday from the APJ Abdul Kalam Launch Complex at Wheeler Island, off the coast of Odisha.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has appreciated the DRDO for achieving this milestone.

"The Hypersonic cruise vehicle was launched using a proven solid rocket motor, which took it to an altitude of 30 km, where the aerodynamic heat shields were separated at hypersonic Mach number," said the DRDO in a statement.

The cruise vehicle separated from the launch vehicle and the air intake opened as planned. The hypersonic combustion sustained and the cruise vehicle continued on its desired flight path at a velocity of six times the speed of sound.

Critical functions such as fuel injection and auto ignition of scramjet have demonstrated technological maturity. The scramjet engine performed in a textbook manner.

The parameters of launch and cruise vehicle, including scramjet engine, were monitored by multiple tracking radars, electro-optical systems and Telemetry Stations.

The scramjet engine worked at high dynamic pressure and at a very high temperature.

A ship was also deployed in the Bay of Bengal to monitor the performance during the cruise phase of hypersonic vehicles.

All the performance parameters have indicated a resounding success of the mission. With this successful demonstration, many critical technologies such as aerodynamic configuration for Hypersonic manoeuvers, use of scramjet propulsion for ignition and sustained combustion at hypersonic flow, thermo-structural characterization of high-temperature materials and separation mechanism at hypersonic velocities can be achieved.

    KB,

Failure teaches us 'much more' than success....sending a vehicle to moon is not a joke....if you are fearful of failure and don't take any risk....you will not achieve anything in life...

We will have a successful moon landing next time....China announces its success only after successful landing !!!...Perhaps we should also announce our success after we achieve it....and even better if we don't invite politicians there...

Regarding successful launch of Hypersonic missile testing ....Great achievement by our Scientists....I congratulate them....

    ...Tak...Takk...

    This is my country:
    1. Hypersonic missile cub, by the hard work of DRDO.
    2. Having it's own space agency ISRO, not even Britain have it's OWN space agency.
    3. Developed countless missiles under DRDO.
    4. Developed light helicoperts / planes under HAL.
    5. Built war ships/frigates under Mazgaon Dock.
    6. Having it's own Super Computer.
    7. Undertook Mission to Moon and Mars under ISRO.
    8. Produced some of the best software professionals in the world.
    9. Produced some of the best administrators in the world.
    10. Produced some of the best doctors in the world.
    11. Utilised Nuclear power for both Military and civilian use.

Guess what?.. some BBs still say, India did not achieve anything in the last 75 years.
    Height of hypocrisy!!!!

But in last six years we have seen demon Demonitisation, unknown amount of Black money collected, jumbled up GST, celebrating Babri masjid demolition and laying foundation stone for Ram Temple over it, identification numbers for cows, opening many more additional liquor outlets, merger of banks, transferring local IT offices to other states, privatization of essential public sectors, encouraging youths to start tea selling, Pakoda, Gau moothra, Gobar and gutter gas businesses after getting Ph.D, abrogation of article 370 in Kashmir which has made Kashmir paralysed and in indefinite lock down, CAA, NRC, NPR and creation of detention centres etc are exceptional ground breaking development of present govt as a result we are reading GDP upside down and present unemployment job data matching 1947 and many more only promises have been announced daily in different forum, avatars and monkey Ba'ath.
